Club Fixed O8: Call flop and turn?

Five handed. Hero opens Button with A642. Both blinds call. Villain at SB is a little bit tight and passive and at SB he nearly never here.

Flop: J62

Villain donks flop. BB folds. Hero call? (Is this an auto call against anyone here?)

Turn: T

Villain bets turn. Hero calls?

Raising flop is an option, though a bit less attractive vs a passive. Our decisions are heavily influenced by how many a3xx we think he has in range.

As played, turn is a fairly standard call.

Easy raise on flop
I don't understand your question

"auto call against anyone" is not a thing

Re: Fixed O8: Call flop and turn?

Here's how I see things:
* We have a bluff catcher with bottom two pair if the board should brick out without pairing.

* If we raise flop, it should be for value, since we're not gaining any fold equity against hands that might have us beat at the river.

* Do we have an equity edge? This depends on our opponent's donking range. What do we think a 'little bit tight and passive' SB might be donking here?

In my experience against players like this, they probably aren't betting much worse than A3Jx, and seem to show up with hands like AA3, AA4, A4JJ etc quite often. We're not exactly crushing that range:

I would think that a strategy of raising good turns (deuces, treys, sixes and high hearts) and calling most of the other ones would be the most profitable line to take. Then we'll have a decision at the river. Against an unknown, I'm probably showing this down on most runouts.

Re: Fixed O8: Call flop and turn?

Against a normal or loose player I am calling turn. Against a passive/tight guy, I think we can really consider folding turn and wait for a better spot. If calling turn, we probably call most rivers.

Unless a jack or ten roll off we should be seeing what they have. Calling if a 4 rolls off too.

Don't like raising the flop here.

Yeah, raise the flop. As played, I could see an argument for raising the turn, but I'd probably just call in tempo. Folding the turn would be absurd.

Re: Fixed O8: Call flop and turn?

What is he flatting in the sb? You have 26 blocking set combos, I can't imagine he has that many JJ combos in his flatting range if he rarely plays from the sb. Imo, you're likely dealing with a lot of A3. Would he bet aj or an overpair here? You have bottom 2, 2nd nut low draw, and a backdoor flush draw and your equity is pretty good on the flop, especially if you're best in 2 directions. If he would donk out hands worse than 2 pair without A3, then a raise is in order. A raise is also better if he would not bet out unimproved A3 again on the turn to make him pay the maximum.

If he's the type of nit that would only bet if he has you beat on the flop for high, then you're better off flatting. If you're not sure but you will know your high is no good if he 3bets you, then I like 2betting the flop for information then folding the river unimproved.

Re: Fixed O8: Call flop and turn?

As stated prior, I’d call flop and raise if we catch a good turn. I wouldn’t be shocked if A3 makes up a huge portion of his range, so I think our high is still going to be good here a lot.
