I was watching a recent O8 WSOP event and one of the announcers said something like "nowadays you should be defending almost 100% HU in the big blind if the raiser is playing the right way." That sounds pretty intense but the guy certainly seemed to know what he was talking about... seems like it would be tough to navigate / realize equity with a lot of the rougher hands especially crap like 339Qr etc., but I do understand that almost all hands are doing fine with raw equity getting 3.5:1 to defend.
I've also seen more conservative advice like "defend the bb with any hands you'd be opening from the CO / BN."
To boil things down to more of a question... what are some example hands of the bottom of your defending range in bb vs an aggressive late position opener?
A different question: Say someone raises early / mid with a bunch of callers and you're getting like 6.5:1 or better in the bb, should you be calling an even wider range than HU outlined above or actually a tighter range because nuttable hands are more important multiway, despite the great direct odds?
As you said, it's going to be tough to realize equity with the rougher hands, and in FLO8 once you make one "mistake," odds often dictate making further "mistakes." As far as multi-way pots, I think tighter is better.
I believe there have been multiple articles on 2p2 Mag, but at least found this one:
