On the back of the other thread I started a few months ago, I wanted to ask a broader question about moving up in MTTs. I currently only play micros, and have still not been able to have a breakthrough win. I continue to run into the same thing again and again that I outlined previously. I can make it to the last 8~10 through fields of 200~400, but yet cannot get a hand to hold up late and make a top 3.
I have also started playing in more and more satellites to bigger buy in MTTs, and have had great luck, winning 11 seats in 23 tries, but then I am unable to ever do anything in the MTT itself. I have had some great starts only to get busted with more horrendous beats.
I am getting so extremely frustrated and down about the game. I play great poker for hours and hours and nothing ever comes of it, yet some donk will sit down (always to my immediate left it seems) 1.5 hours into an MTT, go all in 5 times in a row, win every time and be chip leader.
The simple question is, how, what, or when has the breakthrough come for those of you that have moved up?
I am using a solid bankroll management strategy, so I am not willing to "take a shot" using a big percentage of my bankroll. I had hoped to grind, slowly learn, and build my bankroll to be able to move up or win a satellite and then have a good run to bank a nice score and then leverage that to stay at the higher stakes.
I appreciate any input from those of you that have made this journey previously. I hope you can offer some advice and words of encouragement to this very frustrated rec grinder.
