i find that 5 card is more profitable due to people always speculating much more than 4 card. i almost never play a hand without a2, and ar least 3 wheel cards.

big o is a much tighter game than plo8. you need a much tighter starting hand selection, and be careful bloating pots postflop where you dont have counterfeit protection.

Yes, the possible combinations of cards in 4 card version is 6, 2 card hands, in the 5 card version it is 10, 2 card hands. Therefore, you should play even tighter than the 4 card game. I have also noticed if you are in a loose game where there are 6+ people to the flop the low hands seem to go down in value somewhat due to getting quartered or worse with the low much more often than the 4 card omaha game.

So by definition that means the high hands go up in value, which implies that high only starting hands go up in value. But which ones specifically? Or more to the point, what changes should we make in our starting hand selection? Because AKQJT is obviously a good starting hand anyway.

Nut suits go up in value if nearly all pots are multi-way.

I think the changes are that one needs to play even tighter than the 4 card game. I do not play a "naked" A2 in this game, even if the game is loose, without at least having the ace suited. I think A23xx or A24xx with 2 high cards is a pretty decent starting hand, but not necessarily a raise in late position like in the 4 card version unless double suited with the ace. I also never raise A35xx suited ace in late in this game like I would in the 4 card version.

I adjust by being worse at it and losing more money :-p

It's just like 4 card O8.

At 6/12 and below, you can pretty much play 50% of hands to the flop and profit from the mistakes of others.

Take advantage of the nut peddlers by playing jenky high hands that come home and scoop.

You won't lose being an A2 nit, but you won't win all that much either.

The adjustments are mostly post-flop. Pre-flop decisions tend to be incredibly easy. You need to be more concerned about being free-rolled since the odds of sharing the nut straight or nut boat go way up with the extra card.

Realizing your proper backdoor equity becomes more important, as well as when to seek thin value in multi-way pots.

I think we can safely say that on average, the odds of sharing the nut boat are much lower than sharing the nut straight

I play also tighter with 5 card but in general I feel more comfortable with 4 card which makes much easier hands reading.
