just curious. my impression is that you have a personality that is suited to poker, do you agree? do you work on 'psychological' aspects of your game?
not really, i don't see the point of checking behind the nut low in a heads up pot, esp against a nit who can get blown off a hand. bet/calling your stack off against a nit can just be spew sometimes however.
i work very diligently on my psychological approach to poker. the ability to keep your emotions in check and having the self-awareness of your own state of mind are the most important skillsets for a professional. if you can identify when you are beginning to tilt, you also have the ability stop yourself from tilting. i have a membership to all the poker training sites, which might sound stupid because i play plo8 exclusively and theres almost no content on this game out there, but i'm a member for their psychological videos. jered tendler's series on cardrunners and tommy angelo's series on deucescracked are the best, especially tommy angelo's.
the best piece of anti-tilting advice i've heard in these series' is to just remove yourself from the moment. when we tilt, we have a 1-track mind which says "i'm pissed off, i'm gonna raise this *******, i'm gonna shove this flop, etc." we're completely lost in our own anger, and we don't have the self-awareness to realize it (even if we do, many of us ignore it). the easiest way to stop yourself from tilting is to just get up from the computer, get away from the moment, and just go do something else, even for 5 minutes. you'll come back to the tables feeling refreshed and playing much closer to your A game than you were before. if you're not sure that you'll remember to get up from the computer, put a post-it note on your monitor.
