I understand this is hi/lo, yes. I have been playing it full time as my main game for the past 15 years.
You seem confused, especially the "paying for a draw to a draw to half the pot" part. Running some propokertools sims might give some clarity. A rather dry top set isn't the best hand on this flop, but it's decent.
On to the hand: if I understand OP correctly, on the flop the pot is $55, SB has $120 behind, MP has $195, Hero covers.
Now I don't think checking the flop is horrible, but I strongly favor betting, obviously intending to get it in when raised. We might not be ahead of their raising range, but we don't need to be. When we bet and they both fold, we deny their equity, which is a great result. Also, we certainly get action from weaker hands. AK+fd, AK+ld any KK and so on. BTW I don't think there is a huge difference in betting $45 or $55, and I certainly wouldn't call 80% pot bet a small bet.
So I think flop was wp by Hero, turn very easy fold as pointed out by everyone already.
