Terrible fold on river? ($1/$2 PLO8)

This has been eating me. Good thing it was a small pot, but I regret my decision. Maybe every play was poor and I should have folded earlier anyway.

$1-$2
2-3-J-J

Flop is 6-6-7

Villain who is extremely aggressive bets, I call.

Turn is a 5.

Villain pots it for $30. I call.

River is a 4.

Villain pots it again for $80. And I fold. 3rd nut low and dummy end of straight.

I knew there was no way I am scooping but in retrospect he would need nearly four perfect cards to beat me. I just talked myself that I was risking $80 to win half of a relatively small pot.

He played it well. I played it terrible (in my opinion).

Yep, river fold is pretty terrible. 4 is the best card for you after the ones that make you nuts. I think you can fold turn. Flop is an obvious call against an aggressive player.

We have no idea if villain played it well or not.

Agree with your analysis.

I play so much Omaha that I probably over assume that everyone has the nuts.

Awful river play. The chances of me being scooped were minimal.

On reflection, this was one of the worst plays of my life.

5% scoop
5% scooped
90% split pot

I burned $36 (my EV)

Holy sh@t now Iím super depressed.

Mistake was calling the turn. It's a common trap in Omaha...you make a speculative call, then hit a good, but not great card on the river, and are in a tough spot.

Again, I've said it before...play to scoop or 3/4 pot...no decent player is potting the turn unless they have a full house or nut low here on the turn (or something like A3 with trips/straight if they're very aggressive)...you're going to need a miracle on the river (Jack probably, maybe Ace) to get more than your money back.
