One thing I'm struggling with as I add FLO8 to my game (primiarily a LHE player) is giving the villains ranges when I set up hands.

It's so much easier in LHE where there are only 221 total possibilites!!!!!!!

Anyone come up with any brilliant ideas for setting up ranges for like a 70% limper, a tight coldcaller, a loose coldcaller, a tight raiser, a loose raiser et al?

I've tried giving the loose passives a range of all pairs, rundowns, onegaps, twogaps and doublegaps, but even THAT is only about 40% of all hands - there are usually multiple villains even looser than that.

Thoughts will be welcome.

where does 221 arrive from??

there are just 169 distinct hands. 13 pairs, 78 non-pairs that are unsuited(of different suits) and 78 non-pairs that are suited(of the same suit).
each pair combination has 6 suitedness possibilities for a total of 78 total combinations
each non-pair unsuited combination has 12 suitedness possibilities for a total of 936 total combinations
each non-pair suited combination has 4 suitedness possibilities for a total of 312 total combinations

78+936+312 =1326 total combinations c(52,2)=1326

omaha is indeed much much more cumbersome.

omaha (4 card combinations) c(52,4) = 270725

there are not just pairs/non-pairs there are hands that are composed of quads, trips, twopair as well.
there are not just suited/unsuited, there are doublesuited, 3 of a singlesuit, 4 of a singlesuit, as well.
when differentiating paired/twopair/trip hands, the manner in which the card s are suited alters the distinctness of the hand. ie. KK35 Kh(Ks3s)5c is distinct from KhKs(3c5c) although they are both KK35:xxyz

for omaha the number of distinct hands is 16432


i think working ranging out yourself gives you an understanding of the ranges that you would never achieve if someone just presented you written lines of ppt syntax representing ranges.
composing the lines is a complicated process to balance generalizing for simplicity and being specific for precision.

we forumites, certainly when discussing a hand in a thread, often opt for the ultimate simplicity and just use the propokertools hand rankings for ranging.
ie that a player playing 70% of hands is playing ppt's top 70% of hands and therefore use 70% for the sim.
