Question on the qualifying low for a hand Question on the qualifying low for a hand

Hi guys,

I haven't played that much PLO8 so still get confused sometimes by calculating the low. Just played a hand that has me scratching my head a bit please find below -

Villain 1 holds - J 7 5 2

Villain 2 holds - J 7 5 3

I hold - 6 2 T A

Final board reads - 5 7 5 6 A

Who wins the low end of the pot here?

Is my qualifying low still 7 6 5 2 A even though my ace has been counterfeited on the river?

My understanding is that the winning low is always the hand that has the lowest top card eg - 7 4 3 2 A would be beaten by 6 5 4 3 2

Do I have this right? Just read a similar post on this forum but still can't work this one out.

Thanks in advance

And yes, you are right

You and V1 tie for the low. You both have 7652A.

You play the 765 from the board and the 2A from your hand.
V1 plays the 76A from the board and the 52 from his hand.

Getting counterfeited hurt you because it allowed V1 to tie you for the low (even though your low hand didn't change).

Yes, you count from the top card down to determine who has the best low. A 65(432) beats a 74(321) because 65 is a lower number than 74, get it? And 65,431 is a lower number than 65,432 if it comes to that.

Now here's a tip. On any board with three or more differently ranked low cards, there are always exactly 10 differently ranked potential low hands. So deal out a five-card board, and if the low is enabled, practice reading the 10 differently ranked low hands in order from best to worst.

For example, on a board of 5756A, the best low hands in order are as follows:
23
24
34 (the top three low hands all make a 6 low in this example)
Live 2—meaning a 2 with either a 7, 6, 5, or Ace to go with it
Live 3
Live 4 (the middle three low hands all make a 7 low)
28
38
48
Live 8 (the four worst low hands all make an 8 low)

In this example, when you got counterfeited on the river, you went from having the best low hand to having the fourth best low hand, which is rarely good multiway, so you're actually lucky you got 25% of the pot.
