I worked 2 regular jobs when I was younger and quit both of them within 3 months. I am just not built for being told what to do and never was. I hated school as well for the same reason. The competitive aspect is also big for me as well. I grew up playing sports and watching sports and sports are still a big passion for me. If it was not for sports I would never turn on a TV. Unfortunately I didnt have the size to ever make it that far in any of the sports I played so poker although not really a sport allows to me to continue to enjoy intense competition on a daily basis. As far as money goes if that is what matters to you its not like you can't make a lot of money playing poker if you are willing to work hard enough at it like anything else in life. For me personally I never got into poker with the plan on getting rich from it because that is not really something that I care about. Material things have never really held any value to me. Even as a kid I never really looked forward to Christmas or birthdays. I prefer to be comfortable and dress like a bum most of time unless Im going somewhere nice so I dont have much need for expensive clothes and I guess it became really clear to me a few years ago when I went out and bought myself a nice car only to realize a week or 2 later that it did not make any difference to me what I was driving.

The future of poker always seems fairly uncertain and certainly that is a good reason for people to stay away from it as a career choice but the older I get the more I see the lack of certainty in everything so the future of poker is not something I spend a lot of time worrying about. I just know that at this time in my life poker brings me happiness and I live my life by making conscious choices to do and pursue only things that make me happy. If poker goes away or it stops being enjoyable for me I will deal with it when the time comes and if I have to find something else so be it. I could always just find a honey with some money.

Anyway poker is not for everyone but it works for me and the lifestyle I like to live and those are the reasons I continue to play it and rely on it as a main source of income.

I often find your posts and thoughts original/interesting. I would like to nominate you for a well if this is something you would be interested in doing? I for one would be very interested in reading it

I also agree.

Anyone can start a getting to know me thread. We encourage everyone who posts here to start one. Or if you've already started such a thread, if you want to reactivate your own getting to know me thread, you can post in it again and that will "bump" it.

Since anyone can start a getting to know me thread, and such a thread serves about the same purpose as a well, wells are currently more or less reserved for someone who makes a significant Omaha-8 poker achievement, like winning a major world class tournament (like a WSOP Omaha-8 bracelet event). If you know someone who qualifies and might be willing to host a well, please suggest his/her name and we'll ask him/her. The well policy is not cut in stone - if you have a better idea, please let us know.

If you need help with this, feel free to post here or PM me.

Not to be a pedant but this seems a little ambiguous. What is a world class tournament? Is it restricted to WSOP or would a FTOPS or WCOOP be included?

The requirements to host a well are ambiguous.

Since we now have "getting to know me threads," which could be hosted by any of us, the idea is to have wells hosted by people who are more eminent... major Omaha-8 tournament winners or Omaha-8 book authors... something like that. What do you think?

In my opinion, any FTOPS or WCOOP Omaha-8 event winners would certainly be qualified to host a well in this forum. What do you think?

Do you have someone in mind who might host a well? If so, please suggest him/her. You can either do that in an open post or you can do that in a private message to niss or me. Then someone has to get the person's approval to have the "well" work.

Buzz,

I believe Omahaha himself has one at least one FTOPS O8 event.

Hmm I doubt I qualify properly for a well but I guess its probably about time I started a getting to know you thread.

Although I am really not sure where I would start or what I would include.

One of our former mods who has not posted here for over a year thought "wells" should be reserved for acknowledged Omaha-8 experts, bracelet winners, big money winners, Omaha-8 book authors and the like.

I thought the series of "getting to know me" threads would circumvent that requirement - allowing us to get to know our fellow posters, while still reserving future wells for famous big time Omaha-8 players. (I hosted a "getting to know me" thread myself, and hoped that all of our regulars would host one).

But it was never my intention to make the requirements to host a "well" so high that none of our regular posters qualify.

As I think about it, doing well in some big events should be sufficient to qualify someone, in my humble opinion.

Hold off a day or two before doing anything, please. I'll get back to you in another private message.

this seems pretty exclusive and a little unfair.

I mean the best o8 players in the world might never even play MTT's

Okay well I guess I will do one or the other when i get the nod from buzz. Thanks for the nomination.

I guess the whole thing is tricky. We do not want wells from lots off average players but at the same time we do not want to exclude anyone with good knowledge or even someone who would provide an interesting read.

Regardless of which category I fall into I am glad its not my decision.

Personally I dont see any difference between the wells and getting to know you threads but I have to say the qualifications set forth for wells are pretty silly. The only O8 players that might actually be considered experts at O8 are KPR and Cottonseed and they are probably never going to do a well on here. I guess that leaves us with wsop bracelet winners which we get what 3-4 a year none of which I could name from this year and Im sure most posters could not either. Not only that, most of them are unlikely to even be that experienced in O8 since it is just 1 tournament. The same could be said for wcoop winners.

I dont care if what Omahaha ends up doing is considered a well or a getting to know you thread but either way I would be for sure more interested in it than some guy I never heard of that luckboxed a bracelet.
