The rake isn't the full reason players aren't play this. The structure is absolutely horrible. Look at the same $52.50 NLHoldem tournament (right structure) and what the NLO8 one is:

I actually like the structure. It's at some weird time where i'll often be on my phone grinding it whilst playing cash live and everybody plays it terribly. If they have more time to wait for hands they might play better.

If they change the structure to the intended one for all three (the 0:35 has already been changed), I'd definitely play it (and would imagine many others would play it too). I would guesstimate that the better structure would increase the playing field by 20%. Don't you think that would be better in the long run for the game (putting aside your self-interests of wanting a shorter tourney)?
