Calling KK23 is very bad, calling AK23ds is borderline. Look in propokertools how these hands perform against a tight range and make your own conclusions.
I'd definitely utilize that pro poker tools to get some ideas on how different hands play vs eachother.
AAxx vs AK23 for example is a 57.62% favorite. Try plugging in some different ranges in to get a general idea of how you'd be fairing if you think maybe he has AA 75% of the time and A2, or KKxx, or some randomness the other 25%.
If they aren't a bad, loose or tilty player - this will generally be AA.
To be fair, I do recall winning a Venetian deepstack tourney with KK23 vs AA as final hand many a year ago.. lol, but that's when I was a luckbox and took down the S8/O8 deepstack the next day too... Vs. AA we're getting crushed here 2-1 with KK23 which is very big for PLO8.
I've been using Pro Poker Tools off and on for some time but am really unfamiliar with how to plug in ranges, or if that's even possible.
So for example if I think his range is as you described above, "AA 75% of the time and A2, or KKxx, or some randomness the other 25%" I can easily find out the % for each hand, but not collectively if that makes sense?
I can get the %favourites for the hands 1v1, like AAKT vs KK23, but not KK23 vs AAKT + A2xx + KKxx, etc.
Is there a way to do this on pro poker tools or would I need to learn the maths and just do it individually?
I think that's a bit deep to be stacking off with those hands. AK23ds is strong holding, but flipping for that many BBs isn't ideal.
But no, I don't think you can assume AAxx every time. 75%? That would vary from player to player.
To be this deep and have players still in the tournament open-shoving for 60BBs is curious. It seems that type of behavior would occur more during the beginning stages, and yeah players are deep during early levels.
Is this happening during early levels? Rebuy period?
The AK23ds during a rebuy period, and you have planned 4x bullets, I say 100%rip that in and call preflop.
If this is beyond registration period, regretfully usually a muck.
I found it curious as well, and it seems to happen more-so in the early stages of the tournament but I definitely have seen it past-registration as well.
That would make sense about the rebuy period, if people are willing to put in a few bullets for a deeper chip stack at the beginning.
Are there any hands you would call the open-shove with past-registration that isn't AAxx? or even some AAxx that you wouldn't call with?
AAT8 rainbow is an AAxx that's very relinquishable.
An old friend, ShrewdCrude, would play the **** out of AK47 ds. Then he would type utututututututututut in the chat to mimic the sound of a shooting ak-47. Gotta love the New Zealanders.
