For years, I have been playing 4/8 Omaha 8 at the Lucky Buck in Livermore on Friday and/or Saturday evenings. The games have always been fun, I could always count on arriving between 6-8pm and getting into the game without a long wait, and the game would run easily run past midnight to make the night worthwhile. Well, in the transition to the new Casino 580, ParkWest (the new majority owner) has basically killed the poker action on Friday and Saturday nights, and it is now a glorified Baccarat lounge. Thus, I need a new place to play on the weekends.
I know Bay 101 and Cal Grand usually have a game, but the list never moves, and they will never open up a second table, no matter how many names are on the list. Any info would be appreciated, either on Oaks, LC, or any other Bay Area card room that regularly spreads Omaha 8 (I understand that Napa Valley Casino and Casino Real in Manteca both regularly spread Omaha 8).
I used to live in Dublin, I used to play the 08 games at lucky buck and livermore casino all the time. I kinda got tired of the 4/8 and how slow the games can move there sometimes. Ill break down for you what I have found in the Bay area as far as 08 goes.I used to play 4 or 5 times a week and all of this is recent as of November, I recently moved down to Southern California so I hope this helps to some degree but the game at the Oaks was going strong when I left
Oaks Club - Thursday and Fridays is 6/12. Hands down best high low game in the bay area as far as making money. Since the 15/30 at lucky chances doesn't go anymore, this really is a great game to play in I highly recommend it. The game will have one or two rocks in but for the most part is very very lose and lots of action. They play with a 12/24 kill pot and It's on kill more often than not. If you play disciplined and are willing to grind it out for four hours or whatever you can make a couple racks if you don't tilt. The game starts at like 10am on Thursday and runs through the night, usually a decent list but there are often two games. It rarely runs 6/12 on Saturdays but the 4/8 game there goes every other day and has just as much gamble.
Ca Grand - Love the card room layout and hold em games, completely blows for omaha. They will only open up one table for this game, list is always 10 or 12 deep, mostly dealers and locals. Played 2, 2 4 with two on the button. The rake in this game is a joke and kind of slow. It's a great atmosphere for playing poker but if you are looking for a good game I might stay away from this one
Lucky Chances - this was way far for me but they do have really good games on Tuesdays when they play 6/12 and double jackpots but this in the week isnt really what your looking for but just something to be aware of. They usually have 4/8 most days during the week.
The east bay casinos are great because theyre never too crowded and the Omaha games used to be really frequent and pretty good. I haven't played there in about 4 months so I can't really speak for em. As far as good games go, I would head for the Oaks, No where close to as nice as what your used to but still a good game.
