I will always be amazed at the number of regs who (a) cry like babies when they lose a hand to a donkey and (b) feel the need to assail that donkey for his/her play thereafter, telling the donkey how terrible he/she is.

Hahahaha...... I no longer do that Niss but I used to be one of them. No sense in running off the bad players.

I see the chat box as a gimmick for recreational players to mess around with. Pros and other serious players should ignore it imo.

This boggles my mind everyday. The logical question is - how can these players be good enough to beat these games while being so stupid and literally burning equity by acting like that? The logical answer is probably that the games can be beaten by all kinds of chumps still

That is logical or also they might be able to think about more than one thing, for example is it too far fetched that someone might be able to think of winning strategy while at the same time thinking rediculous things like how cold they run or still getting frustrated and pissy when someone makes a bad play?

I'm just saying people can multi-task even when it comes to thoughts that range from rediculous to prudent.

I know of some great players that have won a lot and will probably always be winning poker players but have some big flaws in some of their thinking like they are suspcious the sites are cheating them or they never kicked their habit of berating donks or they're certain they run cold (last is the worst imo).

Yeah I did buy some large ticket items last year, no tiara but a nice van and house. Kinda thought it was crazy luck when I was winning fortunes at the 400-800 so I was really watching for the turnaround to happen. I was really playing 2-7 bad, and really felt outclassed in the hold em rounds. Around late summer the downswing happened and the game seemed so much tougher all of a sudden. Now I just play the medium limits and I feel so much more emotionally stable. Was feeling really kinda manic-depressive when the daily results were + or - 33K or so. Maybe Durrr and Phil Ivey are like "Oh well, just a typical day" but the average person will be emotionally affected by numbers this big. Funny though a few people have asked why I play smaller now that I'm on the Pokerstars Team. Always tell them it has nothing to do with the Team and everything to do with the amount of $$$ in my account Would have played 400-800 forever if I could still beat it. I sleep better now though. FWIW
ohh i was wondering about the drop in limits thingie...srry to hear the big downswing happened, but sleeping better is what its all about...

I still can't get my mind around this. It feels really awkward to watch a reg, or really anyone, berate another for the their choice of plays. It's kind of embarrassing. I don't really want to get into a debate about gender roles, but I know a large percentage of poker players are men, and there is something really effeminate about crying and bitching in the chat box.

As a group we should make a real effort to end this behavior whether it be through self control or voluntarily chat banning ourselves. I think the best policy is to treat every player like a mix between your grandma and Mike Tyson in his heyday. The internet in general has made it too easy to speak without being accountable for your words.

Plus, I'm just trying to have fun and the negativity really kills my vibe.

I totally agree. One additional problem is that the player that has been berated will try to get even in berating, and it may not go to the original berater, but the berated may berate you or me. That will not necessarily feel good.

I still remember myself beeing called "idiot" when the berater became quartered. I think he wouldn´t have said that if he hadn´t seen that some people talk in that way at the tables. I only punished him by taking a fair share of his chips, but I have to admit I in a way appreciated when another player asked the berater if he was "a savant idiot or a regular idiot"!

I strongly suggest that anyone report players for chat violation if you see them berating fish. It's just incredibly bad for the game and it is against the ToS to do it so it is in our power to get them to shut up. That's especially true if they're quoting sharkscope stats etc.

I know atleast 5+ players that I think are strong players but they constantly rag on the bad players and run them off it makes me sick.

I mean, if you go to a regular 9 to 5 and your boss is a dick to you for no reason or w/e and yells at you, do you snap at him and start yelling at him back? Its basically the same thing (albeit bigger consequences), people at the tables just dont seem to realize that

Theres a whole chapter on that in Super System 2. If you berate bad players for making stupid moves, your encouraging them to play better. If you continue to let them play their normal game, you will benefit in the long run from their bad moves. The whole '"Nice hand" + table tap' move was born on this concept :P

I just think we have to try to be nice. If one think about this only in an "utilitarian" (how you can take the money) way, one may as well think that berating will induce tilt from which one can benefit. Maybe some of the beraters even are thinking that way.

Abusing players in chat is not as cut&dried as it is made to sound here. Educating players is pretty much a bad idea. Recognizing that a bad player has no self-control, and then aggravating him, baiting him, egging him on while he reloads and then proceeds to play even worse because the blood rushing to his head has cut off oxygen to his brain can be extremely +ev.

Also, a well-timed sarcastic remark can break the monotony of the mindless clicking stage that we can get into when only playing 1 or 2 games.

When I see players that go ballistic and then play worse, they get big note on their account and in future sessions I am always willing to help them find their 'unhappy place'.

Who are these people filling up all the shallow tables at FTP and leaving the deep and regular tables empty? Can we do something about this?

I have to agree. I'm hating the shallow tables as well. It seems to kill the implied odds of playing high hands IP or OOP if you're trying to stack Aces. It's also very annoying to raise a reasonable/marginal hand, only to get 3 bet by a short stack that you're sure is raising aces. I'm typically just folding on those because I can't see the point of continuing if there is really no money to be made outflopping the villain.

I'm still back and forth in my thought process on these tables. On one hand, it seems like the Rolf theory of short stacking may apply. Sit next to a maniac or a deep stack, wait for a decent piece of the flop and shove. On the other hand, ABC seems the way to go.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Anyone?

Suggestion: Don't play shallow stack tables.

That's an excellent suggestion but on FTP recently for full ring at least, those are the only ones running. The bad part is that they seem to be very popular on there as well.
