Would like to get some thoughts on the Hutchison System in regards to auto-ranking starting hands:

http://ehutchison.homestead.com/omahasystem.html

System is based on 10 handed, assuming players are a mix of beginner and novice.

Discovered after watching a recent Crush Live Poker vid that broke down some play at a 1/2/5 game at Stones Live, where Bart was explaining how the system worked.

If you can't even figure out yourself what is a playable hand in every pre-flop situation, probably poker is not for you.

Why not create a similar point system for post-flop situations btw?

Don’t find it useful at all. It really isn’t that hard to figure out pf hands in o8, but this system seems overly complicated and I would bet most people don’t even calculate the value correctly. Plus it overvalues multi-wheel card hands as compared to something like KK4A imo.

Even for novice players, there would be very little benefits to learning this.

For intermediate players - none.

Learning simple pre-flop strategy is not that hard in o8 - easier than most forms of poker.

The point system loses all its value once you get into the rich post-flop analysis and theory that all serious players must learn - and where every single card is important. For that reason, trying to construct strategy around the point count could easily be detrimental.

Just saying that it can't be a worse idea as doing the same pre-flop. Of course, there are a lot of things to take into account (bd fds, bd lds, bd counterfeit protection and so on).
