A generic question about variance and associated topics. A generic question about variance and associated topics.

All,

On the back of my other threads which received some very helpful responses, I wanted to ask a general question about variance in MTT NLO8/PLO8.

From not only playing, but also observing, I have noticed that these games tend to run extremely hot and cold, both on a micro level, as well as on a macro level. I see guys winning 6/7/8 hands all in pre in a row. I also see some guys at the top of every MTT for a few days/week and then they seem to settle back down to normality.

I would like to know how to differentiate between bad play and variance in the MTT format. More specifically, can anyone give an idea as to what would be considered a "bad run" in these games. For example, not cashing in 20 MTTs in a row? 30 MTTs in a row? 100 MTTs in a row? Should results be determined strictly by the net cash won/lost over a group of MTTs? If you prefer to look at it this way, what would be an acceptable sample size? 500 MTTs? 1,000 MTTs? 5,000 MTTs? Is there some other way those of you who are successful quantify your results and how you are playing? If there is, could you possibly share it here? Also feel free to share your real life stories of run good streaks, as well as run bad streaks.

Thanks in advance.

In PLO8, oOne can go 500 hands in a row without winning anything.

Easily.

At 20 hands an hour that's 25 hours, YMMV.

How many MTT's is that?

Not sure that's possible at NLHE.

BUT one can win eight in a row now and then.
