Hello fellow O8 fans. I'm looking for thoughts on playing fixed limit O8 when aggressive players are straddling. When some players are at the table, the game changes drastically. So for example, on a half kill 4/8 hand, there might be an UTG straddle to 12, who will then raise to 18, or if a second aggressive player is at the table, it gets capped. So I'm wondering how to adjust my game in these situations.

What do you think? I'm curious how you play "normally" and what you see are adjustments that need to be made to aggressive players playing potentially 100% ranges? One thing I will say is the game is much larger than it appears, probably plays more like a 8/16 game.

Biggest adjustments:

Play looser from late positions and blinds because of the extra dead money.

Reduce some of the weaker/more speculative low-oriented combinations, especially vs a straddle and from early/position, because showdown is more likely and some of the more marginal opens from 1x->2x will no longer be as profitable opening from 2x->3x.

There are some benefits to creating a limping range (mostly from EP) vs straddles, but I wouldn't recommend this approach for non-professionals, especially because many low-stakes o8 players are Far too passive by default.

always playing a-6 cards strong. Get those lo pots big when you can. Being aggressive with los even without aces can mean they think they're 34 is the nut lo. You obviously gotta watch a-6 hands and paying off, but they're the nuts against these guys.

Am I reading this correctly that people are straddling in kill pots? I've never played a kill game (of any sort) where that was allowed.

Biggest and most important "adjustment" is position IMO. You do NOT want the maniac on your right.

Also what was said about not limping in this type of game is just plain wrong. The author appears not to have actually read your post. If every pot is going to the flop for 3 or 4 bets, its best to play only hands that can stand that kind of action, but to limp and backraise them ALL. The aggressive players are driving the action here, and you want to suck the more passive players in for multiple bets with their weaker hands. They won't adjust, it's a 4/8 game and they all suck.
