ive been a PLO player for a while (PLO high)

recently ive decided to make the transition to some live games, but the casinos only run O8. i have very limited experience in the game, ive only played it in 8-game mix. i barely know how to play it (but i know the rules)

can any of you give me advice about transitioning to high/low from big-bet PLO? is this a difficult transition to learn or will my time in PLO carry over to o8?

If you need constant action it will kill you! Patience and playing nutted hands in position and aggressively and it's profitable - honestly though, nowhere near as fun as PLO imo.

First advice would be to not play the high only hands unless game is fishy. Not saying they don't have value in certain spots, but in general with competent players you're not going to flop enough hands and not going to get paid off on them when you do.

You want to look for decent 2 way hands with nut or nut draws and redraws in at least on e direction and be prepared to be aggressive with them heads up or three way.

Don't overvalue A2 with nothing else. If you've played limit o8, you need to learn that there are many hands that you'd go to the river with in limit in multiway pots that you should throw away on the flop in plo8. You must have a decent high hand with potential to improve in both directions.

O, and this should save you if you heed it: Sets are not great hands and often should be folded on the flop PLO they are usually good to great to see on the flop, PLO8, you usually need to fold or tread very carefully. That's a general statemen obviously and there are exceptions, but remember to not overvalue sets with not much else working for you.

Read this book:

Scoop!: Big O and PLO8: Winning High Low Concepts for the Hold'em Mind (Volume 1)
by Greg Vail

Paid for itself in first session. Seriously.
