The purpose of this thread is to gather in one location references to the best writing on O8 by Mr. Frank Jerome, aka "Buzz" here on 2+2 forums . Mr. Jerome has been a prolific cogitator on many aspects of Omaha 8 or Better, and his writings constitute a valuable resource for the aspiring O8 player. Indeed, one would be hard pressed to find consistently better writing by any published author on the subject of Omaha Hi/Lo.

Please post links to (or mention by name titles of) articles and threads and individual posts that can be or once were found in the 2+2 magazine, in the 2+2 forum, and in the 2+2 forum archives. Be sure to provide a short description of the content being linked to so that readers can figure out which articles/threads/posts interest them. Try to be selective, as it would serve no purpose to provide links to every post by Buzz, since forum members can just do a search and find them.

However, this thread is NOT intended to become a lengthy discussion about the content itself, NOR is it to include the actual articles. All of Mr. Jerome's writings are his to share or not as he sees fit. So, even if you have those older 2+2 magazine articles that many of us do not have and would love to read, do NOT post the articles themselves. BUT, it would be helpful to know that such articles exist. See below for more.

I agree with this. I would certainly buy an ebook on O8 from Mr. Jerome. But wouldn't it be better if Mr. Malmuth were to examine Mr. Jerome's writings with the possibility of publishing a 2+2 book concatenating edited versions of his already written articles. The "half-book" by Mr. Zee is full of generalizations and repetitions, and has little actual praxis for either the inexperienced or experienced player. Surely 2+2 will eventually publish a book entirely dedicated to O8. I therefore nominate the collected work of Mr. Jerome. I hope to get the ball rolling in that direction by drawing attention to that work in this thread.

So, in addition to the two articles mentioned in this thread,
Quote:
Turn Bet Drawing Odds, Fixed-Limit Omaha-8 Part I
Turn Bet Drawing Odds, Fixed-Limit Omaha-8 Part II
I found some more mentioned in this archived thread:

Quote:
playing the second nut flush draw in 08
08 postflop theory part 1 [see below]
priming the pump in o8b
some preflop raising considerations in o8
completing from the SB: deceptive odds
From the thread

Discuss: Limit Omaha 8 or Better Post Flop Theory Part V

we can infer that there are several (at least five) articles titled "O8 postflop theory" in the series. It would appear that part IV on postflop theory appeared in the September 2007 issue, which would be Vol. 3, #8.

I further know of the following 2+2 magazine articles by Buzz:

The table of contents for issues prior to Volume 4, Number 8 (= September, 2008 issue) have been removed from 2+2, so I cannot tell for certain when articles before that were published. The last few articles listed (in blue) contain clickable links to the articles, but these links will all eventually expire. Above are all of the 2+2 magazine articles that I know of. There are doubtless several I have overlooked.

I will continue to post references to writings by "Buzz on O8" in this thread, mostly links to "classic" posts/threads in the O8 subforum.

A very, very good idea! I think that one of the most burning questions is if it could be possible to read Buzz´ more than six months old O8 2+2 Magazine articles. One possibility would be that all the articles were gathered into a (e)book (wouldn´t need additional editing, only a foreword) and then it could be sold over the 2+2. I would insta-buy (of corse if it is sold for a two, not a four digit number )

An interesting discussion of when and with what sort of hand to complete the small blind in an unraised pot can be found here:

Buzz's LO8 article (Omaha 8 or Better Blind Defense 101)

Although the original 2+2 magazine article referenced is about big blind defense (i.e., when "attacked" by a preflop raise), the thread itself discusses the pros and cons of Mr. Jerome's admonition: "Don’t even complete [the small blind] unless you have an excellent starting hand."

Some additional information from this archived thread:

The article
Playing the Second Nut Flush Draw in Omaha 8 or Better
was published in the March of 2007 issue of the 2+2 magazine, so this would make it part of the Volume 3, #3 issue.

And the two articles
Priming the Pump in Omaha 8 or Better

Some Pre-flop Raising Considerations in Omaha 8 or Better
appeared in the April of 2007 issue, which would be from Volume 3, #4.

Also,
Completing From the Small Blind- Deceptive Odds
was published in the May of 2007 issue, which was Volume 3, #5.

The Limit Omaha 8 or Better: Post Flop Theory six-part series appeared in the following issues:

In the thread linked to at the top of this post, Buzz explains the focus of these Post Flop articles:

Quote:
... The current series of six (perhaps destined to become seven) articles about post flop play offers a different perspective on post flop play from the one that is usually considered. As such, it is not intended to be the place to start learning about Omaha-8....

The article
Starting Hand Selection in Limit Omaha 8 or Better
appeared in the December of 2006 issue, which was Volume 2, #12.

Two articles
Omaha 8 or Better Flop Probabilities and Possibilities Part 1
Omaha 8 or Better Flop Probabilities and Possibilities Part 2
appeared in the January of 2007 issue (Volume 3, #1).

The article
Flopped Trips in Omaha 8 or Better
appeared in the February of 2007 issue (Volume 3, #2).

The first O8 article published in the 2+2 magazine was
Scoop Outs Compared To Other Outs in Omaha-8
which appeared in the September of 2006 issue (Volume 2, #9).

There was no O8 article in the October of 2006 issue.

The article
Two Card Combination Theory for Omaha 8
appeared in the November of 2006 issue (Volume 2, #11).

Hi

I wanted to print all the articles (for my holidays in Asia) but I cannot find most of them. Is it possible to have the current link starting from the articles in volume 4?

Thanks!
A.

I'm flattered that you're interested in the articles I have written.

However, I don't have them stored in a way that is easy for me to retrieve and send. I've made revisions in some of them and I'd want to carefully review and perhaps revise each one before sending it out.

It would be a chore for me to go back and do that.

Hi Buzz

I think there are many players searching and interesting in all your articles ... If you have fun and some time it would be really great. So sad that they are not archived in the 2+2 Magazine

Thanks!!!
