plo8 revealed is a book that a few have suggested, the author posts here on occasion

It's definitely a worthwhile book, but I think the stud/8 section is more comprehensive and more in depth. The o/8 section covers the basics but as noted is written for a specific type of mid-limit game not necessarily seen very much these days.

it is a great book but as beetman says, the o8 section is not as good as the stud 8 section. i prefer the o8 section in super system 2.

Personally found the O8 section indespensible. Would never say that it was "too basic"--if anything, it skips too many of the basics like starting hand values and various wrap and draw strengths. It is presuming you know all that, and is focused on mentality and adjusting.

I had heard all the same stuff about basic and outdated when I got the book for the Stud8 section. Disagreed, and still a bit baffled by how people come to these conclusions. Given their complete and total lack of in-depth explanations or specifics, I believe the book is just a little too difficult to read for its own good.

[RANT]And yet they seem to get through the horrible near dislexic writing in "Fooled by Randomness" just fine, or lap up any of the stream-of-consciousness muck from Gladwell.[/RANT]

Dan's book 'PLO8 Revealed' is for 6-max, not headup or FR, the author wrote. I have not played that many 6-max games myself, but the book taught me some basic things about PLO8. It's worth to buy one. I bought the first edition as e-book, and laster he sent the extended edition without any additional charge. I read it several times.

But honestly, I learned more by reading this 2+2 forum than the book or several other books. Maybe it's because I don't 'play poker' yet, or I play micro-FR.

At micro-level full-ring, or some 6-max sessions I tried, it seems to me that if you develop some basic strategy and stick to it all the time (I could not), you could win or break even at least. Whenever I tried some fancy idea from any books, I found myself lost.

Dan's book has a lot good advice on all PLO8, such as equity comparison, position, player type, texture and so on. While he may have a mindset of 6-max, it's hard to go wrong. In addition, if you're playing as low as .10/.25 and the advice in the book helps you to stack someone one time - it's paid for itself.

Hwang's first book, even though it has only one chapter on PLO8 is definitely worth reading.

Even though I'm going to get flak on this one, I liked Sammy Farha's book, "Farha on Omaha". A lot of it is general thoughts and advice but it doesn't put you to sleep and you can pick it up cheap at amazon.

Is the book on Omaha high and O8 limit/PL? About which mix of these games is there? Anything about O8 tournaments? Thanks.

Sammy's book covers Omaha high and O8. I believe there may be a little something about PLO8 (I don't have the book here to look). Regardless, it's still worth a look.

Yes, have figured I could get all books concerning O8, they are not an unlimited number. Have got a fair part already. Right now it feels the only other poker book I need than those is Theory of Poker. No more poker psychology and gambling theory stuff, now it's the real skill I need. + entertainment when browsing some of the more obscure O8 books too .

And the other poker games' books are on their way to the archive, including the holdem ones . It's only now that I feel I have loosened the psychological grip that holdem has held on me when evaluating hand strength.

Pretty impressive collection! I found I have another Bill Boston book: Omaha High-Low for Low-Limit Players. It's from 2009. Two thirds of the book is tables, as in your book.

And, just for the record: Bob Ciaffone's book has changed name to just "Omaha Poker" "The Action Game", from 2006 onwards. The "Holdem" wording was dropped

Yeah, some of these aren't the latest editions and some of them are fairly lame. The PLO8 Deppen book also has a newer rework.

If I was advising a beginner who wanted to learn about all forms of Omaha 8 I would say start with limit O8:

Read SS II O8 chapter to get going
Read Zee's Omaha 8 half to fine tune some things
Read Hwang's O8 chapter for some post-flop emphasis
Look over some of Bill Boston's work to get a grasp of hand equites
Skim/read Cappelletti's O8 book to gain some insight to different thinking about the game

Then proceed to PLO8 and read everything:
Starting with Hwang's chapter on PLO8
Then read Deppen's book

Read the 2+2 O8 forum for NLO8 and play with ProPoker Tools a lot for all the games.

Realize that your PLO8 game can and should help your LO8 game and visa versa and if it isn't then you are missing something.
Get it fixed in your head early that as beautiful as it looks in a crowd, when heads-up, A234ds is a dog to A***, meaning a dog to any hand containing an ace and 3 other random cards, :-).

I'm a mtt nl player and I'm interested in studying 0maha 8 cash limit.

Basically, I need a game to offset the variance from NL mtt's for psychological and financial reasons (very tired of long downswings.) Am I right to assume Omaha 8 limit has lower variance?

Can some folks recommend some of the best books for Omaha 8 limit play? Also, aside from cardrunners and dueces cracked what training sites should I be studying at?

Apologies if this post has already been answered elsewhere, if so please direct me there.

thx

i wouldn't bother with training sites for limit omaha/8. Not worth it at all.

I read through the thread and didn't see anything listed about sng's or mtt's. Is there a book or at least a training site that would be helpful.

Why is that Ribbo?

CR has a lot of good pros and some cover L08. If it's free and you just watch it but pick up one good thing, it's worth it.

I know you're a PLO god and I can't tell you how many times I've watched your video where you review hands and comment both on your play and your opponents play. Even though I really only play PLO8, I feel your video has helped the high portion of my game tremendously.

As a side note, could you make another one?

I just took a look at my copy of Dan's book "Pot limit omaha 8 revealed: expanded edition" and there is a chapter that covers SNG's and MTT's.

Your original post said "omaha cash limit".

D.R.Sherer has an older book out that is strictly dedicated to tournament hands. Most of the newer omaha 8 books since 2003 have a tournament section and/or tournament hands since tournaments have become all the rage. Not much out there on specifically on SNG's.

By the way, here's the link to Dan's site. If you just put in your email address, you get 57 pages of the book to read through. If you like it, buy a copy.
