I read the Bill Bostons book briefly and it seemed pretty useless for regular O8 SNG and tournament player. No use for advanced players.

There are lot of hand rankings, which might be interesting, but the method to produce them seemed badly flaved. If I understood method correctly, every hand was supposed to see the flop and from there forward computer simulated the rest of the play, which gave positive or negative ev for a hand, like +8$ or -4$. Well, it seemed ridiculous to call the flop with hands like wih three aces or with dry pair of aces. And then the aces got negative ev value.

If you look on propokertools ->click on Help/Docs, scroll to the bottom, you can look at hand rankings lists optimized for various numbers of opponents

Re: book containment thread

I have recently decided to play my first live HORSE tournament soon, of the mix my two worst games are easily O8 and Stud8. After scrolling through some of this post, I am led to the conclusion that it would be very foolish of me not to read Ray Zee's book High-Low-Split Poker before this tournament, what I will start as soon as I get home from my job in Satan's workshop...

To those of you who have read that book, are there any particular parts I need to pay extra attention to?
Is there any out-of-date/style info in there?
Is there another book/tool out there to supplement any out-of-date info?

thanks for the help, I am really looking forward to this tourney, it will probably be the most fun I have playing all year (but it will be even more fun if I can win).

I haven't re-read Ray's book in a while, but it's far and away the best resource on split-pot poker out there in my opinion. You definitely should read it, and then read it again.

Re: book containment thread

Regarding Ray Zee`s book Hi-Lo Split Poker for Advanced Players and Seven Card Stud for Advanced Players, does it have chapters about pot limit hi lo, or it only covers limit?

Where can I buy PDF version?

Re: book containment thread

My recollection is only limit ... I don't even know if PLO8 was a figment of someone's imagination at the time Ray wrote the book.

No idea about a pdf version ... maybe PM Mat Sklansky or Professional Poker as it's a 2+2 publication.

we only had a few plo8 games when the book came about. it is all limit poker which was was what was around except for some very large crazy games that did pop up a few times.

Re: book containment thread

It is an O.E. book and the LO8 section is great reading it now

The only reason one would not recommend it would be to limit the competition... as a beginner saw an immediate drastic improvement in my O.E. game
