8 handed
100bb

Let's assume our strategy doesn't include a limping range.
It's a live game where people call too wide preflop and don't 3bet enough.

Would you open UTG a hand without an ace in it?

If yes, what hand?

I putzed around with a bunch of different combos I thought might be good and this is the only one that was way above 50% equity against a random hand

ProPokerTools 5-Card Omaha Hi/Lo Simulation
600,000 trials (Randomized)
Hand Pot equity Scoops Wins HiTies HiWins Lo Ties Lo
kh ks 4h 3s 2d62.11% 279,026339,2887,429239,90225,914

Exactly what I thought before I saw the chart.

If KK23 DS is best non-ace hand in plo8, why wouldn't adding the other best non-ace wheel card?

Any other hands able to make wheel-9, or wheel Broadway are probably up there too.

Then again, this table you're at, we need some context on post flop play.

Even that hand is going to make close to zero money honestly. I don't think it's a big deal either way, but you can play these hands so you won't get bored.

One big question I have, and this also relates to when they show odds on TV:

These are all-in odds...most of the time, hands will have to fold on the flop. For example, in this case, the flop might be 279, in which case you would fold to most action...but it might go A5, or K2, and you would scoop had you been in to the river.

I guess this is the problem I see all the time...especially on TV...the odds they show aren't the implied odds...for example, 44 may be a coin flip vs AK, but on a 9-10-J flop, you aren't calling most bets...unless of course you're Mike Postle!

Some combos of premium kkqx, kk23, kk34, kk45, that's about it

Maybe a few other double-suited connected pairs such as 22/33, 33/44, 44/55 and qq/jj but they are still likely to be more fun than profitable, they get better at deeper stacks

And if you get carried away they can be a huge leak, once you decide to open something like 44/66/ds you are probably in trouble
