Does anyone else find Big O MTTs to be extremely high variance.

I think I've only cashed a few turbo Big O MTTs (The $3.30 Turbo Big O) on WPN/ACR and that was probably due to run good if I'm being honest.

I read someone say they preferred PLO8 to Big O because in PLO8 it was a lot easier to have an edge if you were a winning player.

I very much like Big O Cash games and have been doing really well with them but when it comes to Big O MTTs it's seems as if the 1st place can literally go to anyone (or at least anyone that is is currently running the best in that moment in time)

With cash games, I may lose a buyin or two but I can always claw my way back to breakeven and many time into profit. This seems to be a usual pattern so thats why I am thinking about cutting out Big O MTTs altogether and just playing cash games when it comes to Big O.

Or am I just focusing too much on the variance? I just busted where I late regged with 25BBs (I understand this increases variance but I was not trying to late reg I just didnt have an opportunity to reg early). I had AA73DS. I open raise pot. Only get 1 caller. Flop comes 662. I cbet pot trying to get it all in since the SPR is about 1. And he calls with trip 6s. Turn and river were high cards so that was it for me.

Against bad players, I feel it's easier to get the money at 5 card. Given tournaments are full of bad players, I think I would prefer 5 card.

I feel like you can play a pretty conservative strategy where you pass in close spots and wait for chances where you have way the best if it in all Omaha tournaments. These type of hands are more prevalent in 5 card.

just played the same tourny again.

I 3bet all in with AAJ22 (double suited aces) and get 3 callers.

Sucks when you play your best but lose to someone that is all in with KK974 and someone else with T8653

Here is the hand:

Wow, a couple of those players' play doesn't make any sense.

AAJ23 would have been a better holding.

Hands like AA2xx, A22xx, AA22x where x isn't a low card, specifically a wheel card, aren't nearly as strong. When you're gonna pile it in pre, you're much better off with 3 wheel cards, including the ace.

The KK974 and AQ246 are the hands that chopped y'all up btw.

Did this hand take place during the rebuy period?

Yah registration was not closed yet.

But it's a micro MTT ($3.30)...even when late reg is over you'll still find quite a few amount of players that overplay KKxxx.

or like you said overplay any A2xxx combo and end up getting quartered.

But I wouldn't say just because it was a rebuy period that they gambled more..at these stakes the play is TERRIBLE all the way. But as per my OP, the variance is crazy because people never fold in 3bet pot and definitely never fold in 4bet pots and people will call off stacks with 2 pair, nut low with no hi and everything in between. Usually this would be awesome but you can get up to 3 people to a flop which makes it harder.

Yes, the variance is massive in MTT and yes there are plenty of awful players there.

Yes you are focusing too much on variance. Just play. If you don't like variance play cash.

Yah I will stick to cash for now while I build my roll and perhaps leave the MTTs for sundays. ACR has a lot of fun Big O MTTs such as Big O PKOs (which is basically a shove fest with calling stations calling off any and every A2xxx combo with a lot of KKxxx and AQQJT/other PLO broadways) plus regular and turbo Big O mtts.
