Big O hand - facing big river bet Big O hand - facing big river bet

1/2 NL home game, typical loose aggressive players.

Villian and myself both have about $500 in front of us.

Everyone limps and I'm in the BB with 2/3/7/7/K.

Flop is A/5/8 rainbow. So I have nut low and a wheel draw but not much else. Checks to villain who bets $25. I call and everyone else folds.

Turn is a 7 and now I have a set and nut low draw and I bet out for $55 and he calls

River is 6 and bet out for $100 and he makes it $400.

I felt he just hit a straight and my low was good and maybe even my 77 for high was good.

Will reveal what happened, how would you guys play this.

You have a rather weak 23 on the flop, so especially against that sizing (which I fathom is around 1,5x pot) I seriously consider folding, even against a drooler. It's not that you are doing insanely poorly against villain's range, but the equity will be static (barring you hitting a 7 or maybe a 4) and you will need to put a lot of money in on future streets.

I check-jam turn. There is no reason to have leads here. He already claimed he has 23 so let him continue his story.

I check river, it's the worst card for you. As played pay him off.

He’s not going to check back turn very often.

Villain had 2/3/4 so made a straight on the river and I called and got quartered. I guess I lost an extra $115 but I guess I should have check called and maybe he bets a smaller amount

Fold flop. It's a huge bet (I think?) and nothing particularly good can happen
