Am I folding UTG, limping, or raising in tourney? Am I folding UTG, limping, or raising in tourney?

This might be the stupidest question ever posted on this entire site and especially in an O8 thread. I honestly don't know what I'm SUPPOSED to do here, considering I also have 37 BBs.

HIGH 5 PLO8 8-MAX $50,000 GTD

Blinds 1000/2000 100 ante

We're still way out of the money, mostly average stacks. I have 75,000 in chips - second largest at the table except for SB who has 173,000. Rest of table between 28,000 and 68,000 in chips.

UTG with QQJ10

Limp? Raise? Fold?

One way hand, non nuts, UTG....think it's a pretty easy fold unless table dynamic says otherwise

How good are you after flop?

For me, it's a limp and play a flop.

I typically fold any flop with two lowcards that doesn't include a queen.

I understand that this is quite a lot to ask, but rather than thinking what to do with a specific hand and thus coming up with answers in a vacuum, you should try to build a coherent strategy. Do you have limps? Do you have raises? Do you have both? What hands should these ranges include?

I like limping myself. I feel like high only hands are sort of like set mining.
You want lots of people in so limping hopefully encourages more players to play.
Get good odds on your money hopefully. Cause you won't hit a ton of flops.

But having said that, I find most pro's / serious regs raise every hand.
They never limp, so I play slightly different from them. At least not first in they never limp. Only overlimp. That is in all games too

To build upon Amoks comment...

(If it were me)

You have PLENTY of chips to open limp pre and are doing this with a huge part / or maybe all of your playable range. In addition to good hi/low hands and AA's, I am doing this with high rundowns, good high pairs with connectors, and small wheel stuff.

If I limp, it is trivially easy to call a raise and try to hit some flops

The table stack dynamics are not great for 2-3.5bb opens pre. It would be better if it were much deeper or much shallower.

With huge hands I am looking to limp and overshove if the stack sizes make sense. It is best when getting an SPR of ~1.

Fold. There is very little benefit from having this hand in your utg limping range due to its poor scoop potential and other playability aspects.

Cash game, especially against most non Omaha experts, it's an easy call.

Tournament can fold/call are both options...I'd fold if people are regularly 3-4 betting preflop. If it's a limp-a-thon, like many Omaha8 games, then it's a autocall.

And if someone raises, unless you're closing out the action or it's not a full raise, I'd probably fold.

I agree with dewd. UTG position, 1 way hand, no low, decent stack size, - no need to get involved with a marginal hand that you will most likely have to play out of position the rest of the hand. For me, it's a pretty easy snap fold in UTG.

Thanks for all of the different replies!!

Cash game I would play it a certain way depending on table dynamics.

This was not a limpy tournament table. Each hand was getting popped and repopped, it was certainly aggressive, no matter position and stack sizes or aggression level of players (if that makes sense). I knew if I limped then I wasn't getting it through cheaply, if I raised then most likely I was getting popped regardless. But I questioned maybe just getting it all-in pre if anything against possibly 2 players and hoping to smash everything and collecting a nice stack. I'm getting increasingly frustrated with busting out of these tournaments getting it in pre with suited AloAlo hands and losing.

I may only be asking because the flop did come down I believe KJx with 2 spades and it ended up being a monster pot with 3 players at the end with I think 2 pair taking it down (no one even had a spade draw which surprised me) and I would have hit a straight.

Appreciate everyone's input, Monikrazy I love your spotted turtle.

Would try to get in cheaply. Any heat pre-flop I fold.
