what are the odds of running into aaxx when I have an ace in my hand? This happened to me 4 times in a row during a sng, and and it seems way off to me. There were 5 people left.

Firstly, you must consider that there is 3 aces left in the deck, and the other player is dealt 4 cards.

This means that there is approximately 3/4 chance that they will be dealt an ace, and double this (6/8) that they will be dealt two aces. But we must also consider that other players may also get aces.

There are 5 people at your table (at least at the start of the tournament), so then we must divide 6/8 by the 5 players, giving us 6/40.

Finally, if there are 52 cards in the deck, and 48 of them are not aces, and 3 of these are going to be burnt, we have 45 other cards to pick from.

This means, the odds of someone else having aces, when you have a single ace is about the same as someone else having pocket kings when you have a single king.

So, given that this either happens, or does not, with only 2 outcomes, we can simplify the above with a coin.

I will now toss a coin 12 times, we will represent H as this situation occuring.

HHTHTTTHTHTT

The odds of this happening therefore is 5/12 or 4.166666667.

I'm with ya Don, I quit for the day when my AA2Jss got cracked by a dude that cold called a 3 bet pre with 44J9r. Flopped low + flush draws, bricked it all. Sometimes I think the equities just run too close in this game to even bother. I'm losing way too much on monster draws that brick or getting outflopped / blown off missed flops by the 80% vpip asshat station that hits everything. When you bet, he calls, unless of course you connected with the board in any fashion. If you check, he fires. He always has some piece of it. How do you play someone that has an unlimited range? I chip up slowly and then lose huge coolers. Or at least I feel like they're coolers. I don't even know anymore.

In hindsight I probably should've folded because K8LL can quarter me and there's nothing in the pot and villain is not terrible enough to be shoving worse boat and no low .
