Looks like you had some bad luck. However, it might be insightful for you to look at the list of unpaired boards that that do not enable a straight that I put up in response to another recent post. Itís post #14 in this thread:
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/44...ix-max-534132/

There is only one five card unpaired board that has 35Q in it (358QK). What that means is there has to be exactly an 8 and a K on the last two cards for the final board to not enable a straight. Thus after this 35Q flop, unless the turn/river are exactly an eight and a king, or unless the board pairs, a straight will be possible on the river.

Looking at your JT55 hand, the board will pair on the turn or river
7*6/2+7*38+6*8+3*2=341 times out of 990.

And the turn and river will be an eight and a king 4*4=16 times.

Thus a straight will be possible on the river 990-341-16=633 times out of 990.

Itís roughly two to one, from Heroís perspective, a straight will be possible on the river. Hero will make some, 48, of those straights, with ace+king, king+nine, and nine plus eight.

There are thus 990-341-16-48=585 out of 990 running two cards Hero cannot like much. (thatís roughly three out of five).

Overall, after this flop, itís about three to two that Hero wonít like the turn and river much (because a straight will be possible for an opponent). And even on some of the boards Hero thinks he might like, if an opponent already has a higher set, Hero is in big trouble.

Of course, just because a straight will probably be possible by the river if the board doesnít pair doesnít mean an opponent will necessarily have the straight.

All things considered, when UTG bets the pot and CO calls, the situation looks scary for Hero.

Youíre the one who won the tournament, not me; take my advice with a grain of salt, but since you asked, three things. (1) I donít like playing this hand from the small blind. I hate small pairs in starting hands, the hand has no chance for low, and the odds you seem to be getting are very deceptive. And youíre out of position in the small blind. I donít think the half price youíre paying to see the flop is a bargain. (2) If you do play the hand, I like directly betting this flop rather than going for the check-raise. Yes, you probably have the best flop fit at the table, but itís a disaster if you donít, and thereís a fair chance an opponent has you dominated (with a higher set). (3) If you do decide to go for a check-raise, once UTG bets the pot and CO calls, consider rethinking your original strategy.

if you note my percentage of hands won i put it makes more sense. I had shown down a ton of very random hands and my raise was about the top 40% of hands. Still, calling the all in, he was praying i didn't have A2 at least. glad you enjoy the bet sizing.

in response to buzz: i was playing a ton of hands because my table was imo, awful. my 4 cards are somewhat irrelevant as i was having a pretty easy time doing as i want with the table. I wasn't initially "going for a c/r" on the flop. As you stated, there aren't many turn cards i like. I'm not too worried about someone having QQ because most people won't be limping in with QQXX at this point. I check initially for pot control and to see the action behind me. If i lead, i bloat a pot that i'll be oop for on the turn and river and won't know what to do when a 6 or something peels off (obv i have to fold depending on stack sizes). Once there is a bet and call though, I can commit stacks and just run it. If I shove, and the bigger of the 2 stacks folds and the smaller calls w/e i'll run that all day. If they both call, they will generally both have A2 hands and be killing each others low outs. In this particular spot, I have enough equity however i don't really want to get in this big of a pot so I wanted to force a fold right there. It was either pot it here or flat and jam any high turn. preflop is w/e, flop check is best, it is whether jamming and running it right there or flatting and jamming/folding on turns is best.

Maybe I shouldn't have responded, except to congratulate you. But since you asked for input, I gave you my two cents worth.

I realize how you play one hand is highly dependent on the situation.

Again, congratulations on your victory and thanks for sharing.

sorry i wasn't trying to come off as hostile, i like the input. I was just explaining why i did what i did and my argument for it. I enjoy debating poker hands and even if i'm wrong I still do it (as quite a few people probably know).

OK... Please explain the hand to me. How did you push with that hand? Did you have them both on A2? Were you looking for them to fold? Did you feel like in a 3 way pot you had odds?

>700 BB pots are so much fun especially when you flop nut nut. nh

as for dorsal's hand. I'm assuming he wanted to iso by shoving. 2368DS plays fairly well vs AAXX hands if it was a very wide range or even if it is just a wide shove range in general.
