In my experience the exact opposite of this is true.

Bad players play JJ85, QJ94, and lots of other crappy high hands. They also play a lot more hands in general. So while a good player might scoop more pots when the board is low, he will only rarely scoop with high only boards. So while it really sucks to finally win a pot barely big enough to trigger a kill and pay a big chunk back, the overall blinds paid are by the fishies, so kill games are better. You also have less need to make marginal defenses of blinds, which is probably a good thing since I suspect the numbers on hot and cold EV that people use to justify such plays are very misleading due to reverse implied odds and the fact that garbage hands are more often forced to fold some of their hot and cold equity because they frequently have some outs, but not enough to withstand any pressure, such as bottom wraps, top and bottom pair, 3rd nut flush draws etc. It's just too easy to be drawing nearly dead when you decide to defend your blinds with garbage.

Does the same apply to FLO8 at low levels like $4/$8? My first intuition is to say it's probably even WORSE because there are so many split pots where nobody wins except the house. But at the same time, the average pot is probably bigger due to people being willing to play more hands.

Thoughts?

I play and beat a $3-$6 limit hold'em game with a full kill. The game runs high hand bonus/promotions, which makes it somewhat worth it. Here are my numbers from last year and so far this year. House rake is maxed at $5; $3 for the house/ $2 for the PSJ.

Profit: $3.61/hr without bonuses; $15.66 with bonuses
Sample Size: 331 Hours

And I play a regular O8 $4-$8 with a half kill; which if it wasn't the only game running at those times I'd likely avoid. This game has bonus money for Steal Wheels and Royal Flushes (no bad beat). With the hours I've put in I'm pretty much break even. House rake is maxed at $5; $4 for the house/ $1 for the PSJ.

Profit: $1.19/hr without bonuses; $3.51 with bonuses
Sample Size: 399 Hours

Thoughts:

As far as Omaha 8 (without a kill or half kill) goes and based on my numbers... I'm pretty certain I couldn't beat it since I'm barely above break even at my current game. And I'm almost certain I'm the only player in the green overall among my opponents.

players able to climb from 4/8 definately deserve some respect... rake is tough to beat. most people arent going to game select etc. but your goal should be to get to 300bb of the next level asap because damn.
