I tried a somewhat ambitious bluff to fold a low/better high than mine. I'm just wondering how the line I took looks? I'm still learning the game and trying things out to see what I can get away with so feel free to criticise/flame. Villain is most likely leading JT on the river and also leading nut low on turn a lot so I felt like it was a spot I could take advantage of but I may be wrong.

Blocking the Ah is bad since a lot of his check/call turn, fold river range is going to have the BDNFD I think. With it in your hand, almost all the hands he check calls will have showdown value (AA, two pair + decent low, etc)

Also you have to be very careful with frequency because you will likely have a lot more 23 combos than 35. You also might have some hands with equity for one half of the pot that you want to semibluff.

That being said, your 33 blockers are good, so it can't be a terrible bluff. Probably depends a lot on player tendencies.

this stuff just doesn't work in tournaments. even in cash games people find reasons to call. in general when an opponent can offer more than one reason for playing in this manner, then people dream up all kinds of ways to call.

yes, logically based on the way you played it you're very strong. but just by the way the hand played out, you don't necessarily need to have a wheel to bet like this. virtually any ace + low should be in your range after he goes into c/c mode. sometimes you see people just doing this with 36, or something low with a pair, etc.

moreover in these types of games (NLO8 tournaments), people seriously just don't know what they're doing. if they don't know what they're doing, then they don't understand that calling off all your chips here with top set is just asking to get canned

Very much this.

Thanks for the responses. If you were to take a line like this with blockers like 33, would you do it with a hand like A337/A338 where we actually have a low and maybe try to fold out AKxx/AQxx? Or would you prefer to have more equity in one side of the pot? I guess I'm asking what would be the 'weakest' hand you would use as a bluff/semibluff in this spot.

Definitely, as in that case we have better equity when called. I don't think you get called by a lot of hands with worse high than A4 anyway.

Maybe this is nitty, but I'm not a huge fan of this hand to begin with. You can easily fold from the button pre here and just lose the ante. A lot of flops look pretty iffy if villain Cbets.

I'm normally loose but I'm feeling fold pre with no nut suit. But I also am an o8 newb so I'm curious what others think.
