Played the $250 at Venetian yesterday. What a bunch of whiners, and a gloater or two in there.

One old man condescendingly would say 'that will get you something' when he was 3/4ing me.

Anyway the 'strategy' hand:

I have AKJ3 with a suited ace. With 4BB left. I raise from early position, was 3 bet by a loose player, and called bu the condescending guy in the BB. I called.

Flop was K43, 2 hearts, one diamond (my suit). Checked to me, I checked (?), loose player bet CG called. Should I go to war here on the flop?

As played, I did go to war, got 4 bets in on the flop. Turn was JH giving me 3 pair, but making the flush. The last of my money went in.

River brought in the low. The CG guy had flopped a low wrap, the loose guy had flopped just A9 of hearts with a bad low draw.

To add insult to injury, the heart flush guy was really pissed he had to chop. He had put in 14K with the worst equity of the 3 of us. On the flop, I had about 34% equity, so I can't complain I got my chips in terribly, but maybe I am supposed to go slower on the flop, and await developments with my quite vulnerable hand.

typically 2 pair on a low texture is very dicey especially when a flush draw is there.

i think you can go either way, get it in or play conservatively by check calling or folding, get in on a safe turn or just save your chips for a better situation. 4 bb is not hopeless, but neither is your hand.

meh.

Yeh, sort of how I felt. I did have some 'life equity' in getting it in. If I scoop, I'd have a solid over average stack, if I bust, I get to go home.

BTW, this was 7 handed...

BTW, I had top 2 on the flop. Not sure if I had AKJ4 and the flop was K43 or AKJ3 with flop K32.

That makes it even more obvious getin asap. Earlier I did realize that this is a fixed o8 hand, but didn't realize that 4BB=8bb. I think you could just try to get as many bets in pre as possible since this hand flops something so often.

Post-flop wp. Whining about villain's behavior on a poker forum not GTO though. Just punch that old ****** next time

Lead the flop, a good lag can checkback here, I think pot controlling on this flop can be pretty good especially given your effective stack in a tournament

This is assuming 8 big blinds? And not 4 like one would normally assume from op

I also prefer a 4! Pre if your hand was akj3

How far from the money and how big were other stacks on table and was it full?

You get to a point and need to make a stand - I might have gone another lap or 2 before I became pot committed with a better hand - (also depending on how soon blinds go up again and if antes) - especially if there was going to be at least a couple callers to get you out

split pot turnys allow you better chance of getting something and limit allows smaller stack to still have some fold equity when betting

Personally i'm looking to get in here pre with as much as i can after being 3 bet by a loose player. Your hand plays pretty well & has alot of equity against their ranges.

Um, with 4 big bets, you waited and waited and you get AKJ3 with a suited ace. Like....what else are we trying to wait for? AA or A2?? Personally, I would have capped it preflop, but as played, you have 1.5bb out of your 4bb stack in the pot and flop top two. one bet on each street = 2.5bb so whether you go to war on flop or just call, you're getting it in anyway. to make your decision making easier in case an undesirable turn comes, just get it in.

I would 4-bet preflop and try to get the rest in on almost any flop.
