In general, people bet when they like their hand. Taking it down on the flop would be an excellent result as they are folding decent equity pretty much no matter what their hand is.
ya your hand is not "very" strong, but you have position, you more than likely have the best hand, you have a lot to protect against (low draws, flush draws, straight draws) and you would love to deny equity to any of those hands that might make a hand for free OTT.
like CO might say have, oh i dunno, A5689 no spades. or KKTJ9ss, or A7TQKss. making any of these hands go away before they can gain any traction is a wonderful result for you.
I prefer flatting turn due to hand strength (hand is not that great) and deception, though I don't hate raising to deny equity. I think raising must mean raise-folding though, which is not that awesome with a decent hand.

i might be playing some 5/5 live games sometime soon and i'm kinda unsure how i wanna size my bluff-raises etc
