Similar to my other post on NL Hold'em, I'd like to understand how I can lose big pots less. I'm going to try to post 1 hold'em and 1 omaha8 hand per month. Here's a recent bad beat, and not sure if I played it right or not.

Only 3 ppl at the table. Button calls, SB folds, and BB (me) raises to $0.20. Button calls. I have:
Ks Kh Ts 5d

Flop: Kd 7s Qs

I bet $0.20, button raises to $0.40. I raise to $1.65, and the button calls.

Turn: As

I bet $3.75 (putting them all-in; I still had $5 additional in stack), and the button calls.
Button has:
Ac Ad Th 7c

River: Qd

I had nuts all the way until river. Understand this happens in Omaha...should I have built the pot less? Given their lack of raise pre-flop and awkward raise on flop, I don't think I would have put them on AA anyway.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Jon

Seriously?

edit: I don't mean to be an ahole, but you clearly understand it's just a bad beat. Wp.

Thanks for the comment, but I am actually a beginner just trying to get advice. I haven’t played poker in ~14 years since college. When I play hold’em, I have a problem with losing big pots, so I just wanted to see if maybe I shouldn’t have built it up so much at flop or turn and waited to see river card before deciding.

Anyway, thx for the quick comment and reply.

heads up or full ring, just check with a hand like this in the big blind IMO

apart from that, not really much to say.

The preflop raise is very very poor, dont forget the 8 at the end of plo8. Building a pot with this can lead to very awkward spots. Other than that, the hand is very straight forward. Another plo8 tip, when you have the nuts and no low redraw, you need to be betting very large to deny equity, which you did do on turn

You got it all-in on the turn with the nuts and also a strong high hand re-draw.

If you are unsure if you played it well, you need to crunch some numbers on all streets against random hands and AAxx.

Poker and specifically PLO8 / PLO is about pushing mathematical edges. To understand the edges you MUST study the math.
