Andrew Brokos' article this month suggests that a good balanced limping range is playable, especially in games where players do not respond correctly.

What would a good BLR look like? I assume first of all, it contains hands that play well multi way; Axs, and pocket pairs would be prominent. It would also have some combinations of AA,KK for limp reraises. You don't want all your big pairs in your limping range, since that weakens your opening range.

My first guess is 2 combos each of the big pairs, all 22-55, and AWs. Not sure I'd want any small suited connectors, since they are a bit too prone to losing flush/flush, especially bad at 100BB+ effective.

You could use the 4 big pairs, and the A5s combos as back raises. Depending on pot odds, and whether you are closing the action, you would fold most (all?) the A2-A4s since they will be dominated often. You can set mine where appropriate with the small pairs.

I guess this makes limp/call too face up, as now a flop like JT8 is out of our range. Maybe adding in some good SC like JT/T9, or even one gappers in that range.

Thoughts?

Not sure the supposed profit would make up for the headache.

I did some experimenting without the past 2 days in the Seniors at the WSOP. IF there was ever a place for it, that would be the one. Very few isolation raises, and the ones that did were too small to price me out. Mostly small pairs and a few SC, AXs. Nothing great happened but the implied odds were there. I only used this when stacks were 50-200BB. In regular fields I will likely return to a no open limp strategy.

the problem with this is that if you limp with the ideal limping hands, then it's too exploitable, if you balance that range then you're just doing lots of limping with hands you should be raising... I'd like to see some actual examples with data behind it rather than the "it could be feasible"

chances are if someone isn't going to defend an idea with actual data then it's firmly in the idea stage

Open limping is an exploitative strategy, so your limping range is based on the behavior you are wishing to exploit.

Are you limping with strong hands to set up a limp-reraise semibluff that often picks up the pot or are you limping with weaker hands to set up getting paid off when you limp-reraise with AA? Or are you just trying to get the table to let you see flops cheaply when you have strong implied odds hands?

I sometimes have a limp raise in order to force strong players who like to isolate into playing multi-way pots if that is an uncomfortable situation for them. It requires having fishy players who limp-call too much but respect three-bets and deep enough stacks to have some post-flop play. If you've ever seen an aggressive player look frustrated when he raises OTB in a limped pot and gets five callers, then seems tilted when he loses to some garbage two pair, that is who I am looking to exploit by limping sometimes.
