can someone please explain to me what this means exactly:
"PokerStars.com and PokerStars.eu operate worldwide under licenses from the Isle of Man and Malta governments, respectively. PokerStars also operates under separate government licenses in Denmark, France, Italy, Belgium, Spain and Estonia"

in a way that I can understand.

I agree with the above posters regarding taxation. Because they operate in different countries they probably need to file taxes separately in those countries.

Splitting large companies into multiple entities is also common, as a means to limit liability. I work for a large mechanical contractor and when they get really large contracts such as working on refineries, skyscrapers etc, they always create another numbered company to do the work under; this way if the owners or the general experience difficulty, it limits their liability and won't pull the parent company under.

The licensing is a act of control and/or endorsed legitimacy that was issues by the said governments.

The licensing works to help hinder illegitimate entities from operating and thereby adusing those users that choose to partake in the enterprise.

The issuance has an additional effect off setting a benchmark that can be used in litigation against those same illegitimate business that choose to operate outside its restraints and restrictions.

Then there is the money aspect... fees and taxes that licensing generate. Thats the main reason behind being a licensee in multiple jurisdictions. Pay to play

Ok, let it be for the tax reason. So why they banned players from other regions? In the past i like to play at ps.fr but now its for French territory only, id agree to pay the same taxes like they did, but i have no options for this.

i'd assume it's because the french government allows online poker but wants it to be structured exactly the way they want it. ... not sure why it wouldn't allow foreign players, but one thing i think of how can you ask french players to only play there but then let people from all around the world get to cherry pick where they play? just a thought

only winning players would sign in from foreign countries and take away money out of France
