Recognizing your strengths and weaknesses is half the battle. Knowing those things can help you not only play better in general, but make better choices.

I have some big strengths and some equally big weaknesses.

Strengths: High IQ (I passed the MENSA tests with room to spare), love card games, don't tilt easily (I don't care what you say about my wife as long as I can bring the money home), good analytical skills and business approach when handling my money. I like to study.

Weaknesses: I have ADD and I'm very easily distracted. I have memory issues, and I probably won't remember any of the hands I played against you a week ago.

In my case, since I'm easily distracted, I know I won't do as well when I'm facing a screen with a football game on, so I play in a room with no screens except the ones with the poker numbers. Since I don't remember a lot about how someone plays, I lean heavily on the HUD when I play online. When I play online, to lessen distractions I get at close as I can to complete silence. I often play late at night when my wife is asleep. Sometimes I even wear earplugs.

You get the idea. If you tilt easily, you probably don't want to play live where the players are allowed to be drunk and abusive. If it bothers you that someone in chat says "your mom was good last night", turn off the chat. Keep looking for bonuses or other spots where you can make extra just for playing: a site or game with lower rake, or leaderboard races or promotions where you can make a little extra just for playing a lot.

Honestly analyzing your strengths and weaknesses is one of the keys to being a winning player.

Dude... if you're bored of Holdem, switch to Omaha!

It's a much more brutal game. Crazy variance, lots of all ins and multiway pots.

Do you play live at all? I know most people who come from an online background or like zomg 40 hands/hr is brutal. I have played both online and live, not professionally, poker is just a side hobby for me and I enjoy playing live much more.
Scooping in a mountain of chips in a big pot is fun, watching people squirm in real life when you slide out a big stack of chips. It is also much more social then online. Your hourly etc is probably much better online but putting in some time in live games might be a good thing for you if that is available in your area.

When I'm not studying and working on my game I get bored. I'm making my study sessions longer and checking into how people are doing in the different tournament series going on.

Staying updated with other people in the poker community while taking a break from playing helps to keep up with how things are changing.

I also make sure I know why I'm playing so I don't feel lost and lose focus on my personal goals on and off the table.

When you are bored, you are probably slightly burned out.

I'd recommened reading 'The mental game' by Jared Tendler, to reach the next level.

That, amd sticking to a schedule and taking days off.

Playing more than one form helps as much as eating more than one food. I play many forms plus my life is half brain rest physical work and half poker that is maybe the major in my life and my life, so the issue does not really exist plus there is no end to ambition.

Still wanting to play most every day plus an average of 1.5 or so free days per week as i need to do some other things in my life also like see people and do shopping. One to two months off during the summer with studies, including poker, like reading the latest books, some language study, travel, outdoors. The summer, 7 8, isnt good or even profitable poker time anyway, or in my case it hasnt been. One month off poker/work, during the winter with similar content including sun.

I wonder what is going on... Any advice? Anyone else relate?
Hangout or chill sometimes, go out with the family, friends, or love ones during the weekends. These are the ways that you will fight boredom from poker.

Never get bored of poker. But I make sure to take breaks. Get out into nature. Find things that don't allow you to get bore that manage to keep you interested through more strategic thoughts or whatever. Also agree with video games and chess as I used to won a video game store and play games of speed chess in one minute or less, which really gets the mind thinking.

This is going to happen with any hobby or job you have. Good thing with poker is you can take a break. Let a week or two, maybe even a couple of months pass, and I can almost guarantee that you'll feel the urge to play again.

Exactly, if you do this for a living it can get boring sometimes. For me a 2 day break is enough to get motivated again, I mean alternatives are getting a real job. So with that in mind i appreciate the grind
