Who will run against Trump in 2020? Who will run against Trump in 2020?

Sen. Richard Blumenthal should run. Trump is already pumping up his national visibility by tweeting about him, and it appears he would be a credible candidate.

1) Want Michelle, but don't think that she'll run.

2) Think Biden or Booker, but it's too early to say for the D's; a relatively fresh face could emerge.

3) Democrat. Decent chance over Pence or another non-Trump R.

Honestly I think the right choice is 'none of the above'. Mark Zuckerburg is a strong candidate probably, but the rest of these people have major glaring liabilities as candidates.

In the new political environment being low charisma is definitely worse than having marital baggage or being gay. I think Zuckerburg has such a powerful story and control of facebook so he qualifies as charismatic regardless of his interpersonal communication skills. Which are better than HRC's fwiw. Donald Trump just got elected, which means you can grab women by the pussy and still get elected. The Democrats best option here is to nominate someone who has Obama level star power no matter how much else they have to sacrifice to get that.

I suspect the next candidate for president on the DNC's side will be younger than 50. The baby boomers were a TERRIBLE generation for this country, so maybe we'll get lucky and be done with them running the show sooner rather than later?

Are there any popular governors out there who could run?

Michael Jordan

If he can run the country the way he pushed off Utah Jazz players in the NBA Finals, he'll make America great again.

I don't know how Zuck could possibly prepare for the debates. Has he said anything off the cuff in like 10 years? Maybe he's really good at it and just chooses not to, but I have no idea how he responds in unprepared situations.

Can't believe people are calling Booker charismatic or talking about him giving rousing speeches. Dude is insanely boring everytime I've seen him. Does anyone remember his convention speech? Thought it was awful.

You would be the sole person who thought that. He's very energetic and a gifted speaker. I'm not sure where you've seen him.

I talk a lot of politics in real-life and he and Biden are the two most oft-mentioned when it comes to righties or center-righties who usually vote R stating that they actually like a Democrat. He definitely has crossover appeal.

John Hickenlooper, Terry McAuliffe, and the aforementioned Steve Bullock.

There are many people talking up Andrew Cuomo. I like him and he's doing a good job in NY, will win a third term easily next year, and probably will take a shot at running, but this will go nowhere. He will not appeal to people at all nationally.

Yes, I'm sure those skills will translate. Just look at what an amazing job he has done as an NBA executive and owner.

Ugh. I of course would vote for anyone against Trump, but I would feel positively sick to my stomach if Cuomo were the Democratic candidate.

Cuomo isn't a buffoon like Trump, and he certainly understands government and the issues better than Trump, but like Trump, he is an autocrat and a bully at heart, and not particularly smart. I think he would be a terrible president, especially right now.

I agree re the bolded. I'm not terribly excited about Booker or Biden, but I at least can draw a map where each wins the general.

I cannot say the same about Elizabeth Warren. The people who think she can win are the same people who thought that Bernie could win, and I still think they are wrong.

Even though she is from the midwest, I think that some voters, too many for her to win, will see her as out-of-touch liberal intellectual from the Northeast corridor.

Good post.

The one thing I could say about Cuomo is that he's been very effective at infrastructure improvement lately, and that this would be a great thing to bring to the Presidency. Not sure if you're from NY, but the elimination of the old Kosciuszko Bridge, cashless tolling on the Verrazano, and improvements to LaGuardia Airport alone are enough to keep me in his corner for life.

I'd like to see Andre 3000 scoop the whole thing followed by everyone agreeing to just give up and disband the whole USA.

Also agree with inar2 that AI is our only chance of getting a good governing body any time soon. Democracy sucks.

I have been in NYC for more than twenty years. I agree re infrastructure, but my tolerance for the autocratic style is at an all time low for obvious reasons.

As a Massachusetts resident, the reality is she puts off as many people as she captivates, and that most certainly includes women and blue collar folks. She managed to beat Scott Brown by a not very wide margin, and only because that was back when painting someone as beholden to banks and big oil mattered in the eyes of voters. She probably could debate the pants off Trump or any other Republican, but we all know that doesn't matter nearly as much in today's vastly different landscape.

This is likely sarcastic, but for the benefit of anyone not from around here who thinks he might be a serious candidate, he will go nowhere if he enters the national political scene.

The trend is starting. The pattern is becoming apparent. Reagan begat Trump, Trump will lead to Zuckerberg, Zuck will lead to a Kardashian, badda bing badda boom -
