O'Rourke would be a horrible candidate for Dems if he wins... You don't turn a Texas Senate seat blue to give it back in a special election a third of the way through the term... especially in an election that any halfway decent candidate wins in a historic landslide, as long as the Republic is still standing.
Good point about a sitting red state senator, though now i think i wouldn't be opposed to him exploring a run say if he runs Ted Cruz close, but loses in texas by like 5 points or less.
Inexperience may be a problem with both candidates, but I'm thinking that it may be ideal to avoid more name brand candidates who republicans already have years of smear material on, no matter how substantial or insubstantial their attacks are. For example, news came out today that Eric Holder might be considering a campaign. I'd be disinclined him to support him early on, just because fast and furious, a real tempest in a teapot, is already in the minds of millions of low-info right wing media consumers, and inevitably crap "scandals" like this will be often repeated uncritically in mainstream outlets.
Trump already showed how to manipulate this echo chamber with one flawed candidate, between his nonstop coverage in the free traditional media and social media, all the while shrugging off the piles and piles of red flags that surfaced about him.
That said, all other things being equal, whoever has the most inspiring and aspirational message, and whoever can communicate best with the most voters, should be the nominee. But grading out all other quantities equally, I might be more willing to go for a Beto O'Rourke or a Tammy Duckworth than a more well-known brand like Elizabeth Warren.
