If you mean easiest win of all time for Republicans, you would be correct.

Biden is a serial touchy feely guy, I assume dozens of woman will come out of the woodwork with their story.

someone: how about some guy nobody's ever heard of.

w00t: actually, all democrats are socialists and socialism has killed billions of people, that guy is a murderer.

Who is this w00t fellow? Is he from POG politics or some P7.0 type of joint?

oh damn you're right nobody could become president with accusations of inapproriate sexual misconducts

To be fair if Biden was accused even by a few he would not be able to win. The grand old party of family values and superior sexual moral teachings is ok with it though it seems. They can even be in middle and high school.

As deplorable as America's people are, I don't think Trump gets elected post-Weinstein. It was close enough already, and there's definitely been a change (perhaps because of Trump's election). A lot of people would stick by Trump, but he would lose enough at the fringes.

Of course, it's completely insane that a guy on tape saying the stuff he did gets elected president.

I think going with a woman in 2020 is the way. You know that any male Democrat who runs is going to be bombarded with sexual harassment accusations whether they're bull**** or not. With enough of them coming forward, the speciousness of each individual story will be compensated by the sheer number of them. People will figure it's bad even if only a small portion are true and either stay home or vote third party.

You say this because (i) you believe that all potential male candidates sexually harassed women; (ii) you believe that it is inevitable that women will come forward to make false accusations against any male candidate; or (iii) you believe that Biden will be the only male Democrat to run?

I don't believe (i), (ii), or (iii) is correct.

I would probably put money on her right now. I agree that touchy Biden is a risky pick, and in general there's going to be a strong push for a woman candidate. She will suffer a bit from flip flopping on many issues as she goes from a neolib semi-conservative to a progressive, but I think so far she's playing that about as well as she can by being early and opportunistic on the right items. She's charismatic enough and I think her personality is well positioned in contrast to Trump.

Can we just put a hard "no" on anyone born in the 1940s? I don't want to get all ageist, but we need some younger people in politics badly.

Maybe, but people who choose to become corporate lawyers should not be electable.
01-05-2018 , 08:03 PM
Nah, I'll take Bernie or Warren over any of the knockoff Obamas and assorted neoliberals. I say this as one of the younger posters itf.

Especially defending Philip ****ing Morris in tobacco litigation. And not just a little bit, for 9 years!

That is gonna be a No for me, dog. We can do better.

Gillibrand's biggest issue to me is the magnitude of the flip flopping. It's not like one or two little things. She went from conservative blue dog dem all the way to the left in a short time period.

Some of the Hillary comparisons are off the mark (IMO Gillibrand is far more likeable), but she's similar in that she doesn't seem to have many firm values and it comes across as being inauthentic.
01-05-2018 , 09:12 PM
People who go into corporate law generally don't have any values. They get into it because they are amoral from the start.

Gillibrand would lose. It's almost impossible for a woman to win as it is, with the general misogyny among a large portion of the electorate. It's even tougher if her claim to fame is telling Al Franken to resign, and saying one of the most popular democratic presidents of all time should have resigned. She's not a very charismatic speaker either, comes across more like a nice soccer mom.
