Who will run against Trump in 2020? Who will run against Trump in 2020?

I wouldn't put too much stock in a poll that has Hillary in it. Where does her 13% go assuming she doesn't run? She's unlikely to. So is Oprah, in my opinion. So move her support somewhere.

That puts 26% of the votes back on the table. Bernie was running neck and neck with Biden as respondents' second choice.

They polled registered, not likely voters. The Harvard Harris site is down, but The Hill article says it was 37% Dems, 31% Reps 29%, Independent 4%, Other.

They only included Dems for this question, and Bernie did better in open primaries. They also didn't include a few candidates that could run...

So it's a very flawed poll by design imo... But it's hard not to be this far out.

Ultimately, all I'd read into this is that anyone at 10% plus is in good shape, and holy crap Gillibrand isn't even in the mix right now... That surprised me.

Although that would be the obvious best thing for him, Trump's narcissism almost certainly prevents it. Can you imagine how much it would hurt someone like him to have the national conversation turn from being "TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP" to "Pence vs. Dem"? He LOVES being the center of attention. He's not going to just walk away from it. He CAN'T just walk away from it.

Most people have no idea who she is and even less of an idea why they should care about her.

Someone agrees.

Here's why Oprah would get destroyed if she actually ran

Really crappy moments in Oprah TV history: http://takimag.com/article/oprahs_de...#axzz54fQCNbYC

She believes in The Secret and she's an anti-vaxxer. She's a fn nut and an immoral opportunist

lol yeah you have to be reasonable and squeaky clean to be president*

*unless you're white

As discussed before, Biden is at a high risk of grope or other sexual assault/harassment allegations. Also, he was the lead congressperson during the Anita Hill testimony, and given today's environment how he handled it looks pretty bad (he begun apologizing for this last fall, likely due to thoughts about running). These sorts of things will be put on center stage if he is running.

Exactly, Oprah is a wonderful personality, but this country is just not ready to elect some anti-vaccine, trash TV star who believes in the secret.

Sure trumps a jackass but Oprah sucks too. She’d be a fat ****ty candidate

You guys are making me want to vote for Oprah. I'm not sure I've ever seen an episode of her show, but I understand she was part of the crappy TV like Morton Downey sr. And then she renounced it and has only done positive things for quite a while.

Almost guaranteed. Most of those mentioned have severe baggage of some sort or just being too old like Bernie or Biden. The scary thing is as we’ve seen recently as well sometimes the baggage you think you know about isn’t even the baggage that ends to sinking the candidate. As someone said in another post. Biden comes off as a classic example of someone who will have a sexual assault accusation. I remember a reporter for FOX29 in Philly claimed he overhead Biden as he scanned a sample ballot before he voted in the 2012 election saying “banged her, banged her, banged her too”. Could you imagine the backlash today if that story came out? In 2012 it was just funny

I guess? The Secret came out in late 2006. That's not THAT long ago compared to Morton Downey Jr et al.

I can see this happening. But Oprah could be a team player. She runs, wins the nomination, then selects Hillary or another qualified politician as VP, then once elected, Oprah steps down after 100 days and Hillary is president.

Back in 2008, I always felt when Obama edged out Hillary in the primary, he should have met with her and said "Hillary, I am a young man. Now is your time. I ran and didn't really expect to win, but did it to setup a run in 2016. But now that I have won, I am will tell my delegates to vote for you if you name me your VP. Then after 8 years of VP experience, I will be ready to take over in 2016." Oh, what could have been!

Has LA mayor Eric Garcetti been mentioned yet? He seems electable.

Garcetti is ok. Probably has a chance.

Oprah would crush the usual Democrats. She'd easily sell herself as an outsider like Trump, she's been fat enough that the heartlanders can identify with her even though she's a billionaire (she reminds them of their favorite telepreacher), and she's got organizational skills. Her election would certify the fall of the American Empire, swallowed whole by its disgusting, narcissistic culture.

Yeah, no one in their right mind would have done that.

Not only that, but it would have been disastrous and the end of Obama's career. He would be an unknown guy, forever tainted by the generic 40-yr stink Rs have connected to HRC, and whatever specific scandals the GOP could hang on her during her term(s).

No. Dems don’t want an outsider. Obama has a 70% approval rate so 90%+ with Dems. If she starts taking unorthodox stances or criticizes Obama she doesn’t have a chance. Her only shot is to be ultra bland insider politically with Oprah personality magic.
01-20-2018 , 03:20 PM
She could probably get away with Trump-style palaver and simply give evasive, non-answers to every questions she's asked. If you remain a blank slate the public has the opportunity to project their own beliefs on to you. I've seen this phenomenon at work with almost every IRL Trump supporter I know.

kamala harris would be the most qualified/effective president PLUS a black woman would illicit so much reactionary hatred from the right it'll be hilarious. her only problem is she isn't really annoying enough to really make conservatives squirm. hopefully for the campaign she can develop a shrill hysterical affect and begin bisexually dating oprah

Not sure if serious. Chance at what? Winning the Democratic nomination? Trump had near 100 percent name recognition prior to running for President and dwarfed everyone else in media coverage.

I can't see any possible way that a mayor who is largely unknown to much of the country is going to win the nomination.
