You're assuming the party infrastructure has the ability to ostracize him. Or that the party won't move to him if Romney loses. It isn't horrible as a desperation play, and it plays well to the 35% of the primary that votes for him. It's a message to Louisiana and Wisconsin voters, probably to newt voters in Wisconsin. Vote me or you're left with Romney v obama. I think that rhetoric helps with Texas as well, and NC. Santorum needs double digit wins for press and money.

Remember when pawlenty had his moment to say Romney=obama? He let it pass, and where did he go? I don't see an attack for Santorum other than saying he is as bad as Obama. All he did was go one step further to appeal to a base that almost believes it.

Eh, as Huckabee went down he said some douchey things about McCain. HRC said much worse about Obama, leaking that photo of Obama in Somali gear to Drudge for instance -- and they mended fences quickly.

Gingrich seems to have literally burned bridges with Romney and the rest of the party, but he's basically on a book tour anyway. He's not trying to maintain a career.

I think Santorum, on the other hand, is still playing nicely enough he'll still be in everyone's good graces if he doesn't get out of line down the stretch here. I really don't think he's gotten out of line at all to the point of disqualifying himself out of a future. As far as these things go, it's been pretty tame.

Santorum's new ad "Obamaville" has a subliminal image of Obama at 40 seconds in.

Obama=Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Gingrich has been multi-tasking careers for years...
He always has a dozen things on the go...
Dude has foundations, make movies, writes books, speeches, etc...
His consulting fees have gone from $30,000/hr to $60,000/hr.

Santorum, by contrast = obscure washed-up ex-Senator...
Is currently an imploding washed-up ex-Senator...
And will be an obscure washed-up ex-Senator in 3 months.

When you are a heavyweight like Gingrich...
You have the luxury of burning a few bridges.

When you are a lightweight like Santorum...
It hardly matters what you do before you disappear.

Brabender also explained that the ad is actually a trailer for an eight-part webisode series that will run on the Rick Santorum website in two weeks. "Each episode takes some part of Obama’s policies and shows how that would impact people two years down the road in 2014," he said.

this thread is the only place newt is still relevant . He is now charging $50 for pictures after his speeches/book signings. And his wife has been cultivating the elementary school children's votes at her campaign appearances.

Santorum will likely try to amass as many delegates as possible, that means Texas, NC, and Pennsylvania. May, unless he loses Wisconsin badly, and then Pennsylvania in late April. Lol, Romney giving either the VP slot. Neck anchors, and don't underestimate how heavy the Santorum paunch is. Or imagine trying to control Gingrichs mouth in a general election?

There were actually some primaries yesterday.

Frothy had tons of chances. Every time he had an upswing he imploded. Even Newt had chances. Perry had a chance. Mitt wasn't inevitable, he will barely win the 1144, slight chance he doesn't, for the minimum required to win the nomination. Its the Republican party, anyone without the IQ for capital punishment had a chance.
