Who Will Be the 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee? Who Will Be the 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee?

I remember the SNL skit and I don't even think Clinton was a character in the sketch.

I was as JR in HS in 92. Not only did I watch debates, but I got roped into watching the EPIC VP debate as part of a news story where the local paper had a bunch of HS kids in to watch and talk about it.

The VP debate was basically Quayle and Gore slapfighting, and James Stockdale (Perot's VP) turning off his hearing aids in response.

Don't recall early opinions on Clinton. He was a touch too centrist and southern and slimy for my family's taste, and I'm sure they were in the bag for Tsongas, but it was more just about ideological loyalty (my folks were former hippies/staunch democrats and "not-Republican" was v. important to them) once he had the nomination.

Too slimy for a hippie???? Does not compute.

OMG......Paul Tsongas.............you made me remember the speedo commercial............I guess I'm two years or so younger than you but I remember all those debates. Ross Perot before the silly phase. Jerry Brown and the Clintons at war. Pat Buchanan making Bush41 so exasperated. I remembering hoping 2008 was as epic a year as 1992 elections, but it so disappointed. Despite what was CW at the time, the Dem field was really strong, and Perot mattered, and a sitting President actually had to fight a primary for a while. Sex, feuds, derision, anger, confused press, and an upset electorate made for great drama and SNL skits......."I don't wanna be a Jimmy Carter"

Gingrich's Charity Paid Money to Gingrich's Business

Quote:
A charity founded by Newt Gingrich paid Gingrich's for-profit company $220,000 over two years, ABC News reports. The non-profit, Renewing American Leadership, was meant to spur conversation about restoring Christian principles in Washington, and mostly did that through letters seeking donations.

mjkidd,

i think you sound like a muppet itt. but i do like the fact you seem willing to gamble it up.

right now perry is at 13% and romney is at 31.9%. (2.45x)

i will lay you my 2500 to your 1k on romney getting the nomination over perry. if neither get it the bet is a push.

quote to book and shoot me a pm. (will go as low as 1250 to 500 or as high as 10k to 4k)

Asked whether as Perry’s adviser, he would advise the governor to make a bid for the White House, Gibbs said, “I probably would.”

“As you mentioned, there’s a vacuum for somebody with even a half-decent economic record on the Republican side,” Gibbs said on CNN. “I could see how this dangled out would be — could be something that Rick Perry or somebody else would want to jump into.”
That tells me that the Obama camp prbly doesn't like the thought of a primary process that just turns into Mitt bashing Obama while the rest tussle for a VP nod

snaggle,

I think Romney's intrade odds are fair or perhaps a bit low. So no thanks.

Huntsman will officially declare next Tuesday, I read. He's been running for a few weeks now anyways. I can't see his campaign going anywhere due to where he stands on the issues but I think he could crush a debate and get a lot of press.

slowpony!

lol Huntsman:

Quote:
“We now employ more people between China and India than we do in North America, which is really quite phenomenal when you consider that about 90 percent of our associates 10 years ago were in North America,” CEO Peter Huntsman, 48, a younger brother of the potential candidate, told an industry conference on June 8.

Huntsman took err jerbs and gave them to China while he was an ambassador (or at least, that can be the talking point). Good luck running against that.

His brother tho? (Well, his whole family basically but yeah)

[ ] Voters care about nuances like that
06-14-2011 , 09:55 PM
That's not even a blip on the reasons he can't win the nomination.

[x] healthcare mandate
[x] civil unions
[x] global warming is real

I mean. He probably doesn't hate Muslims or immigrants either.

There is quite a bit of empirical data that suggests that embarrassing brothers are not presidential campaign killers. Not that that statement is particularly embarrassing.

Huntsman actually took a job working for Obama. In the current climate, that's a bigger lol in a Republican primary than being a gay abortion doctor who likes high taxes.
(although some voters might consider them equivalent)

i don't see this is a problem either. he was serving his country, as he's done for many republican administrations.

You may not see it as a problem, but the average Republican primary voter will see it as a very big problem since working for a Muslim Kenyan bent on destroying our way of life is most definitely not serving his country.

I mean it's not like he was the Secretary of Labor or something. An ambassadorship is just not a partisan position.
06-14-2011 , 11:11 PM
I like to think even the biggest mouth breathers realize an ambassadorship is not something you decline when the President asks you...

If he was a true patriot, he'd be working day and night to destroy Obama and his Islamic socialist homosexual agenda.
06-14-2011 , 11:15 PM
And not because of patriotism or anything but because it is a really ****ing awesome job.
