Just ciggerattes alone crush shootings and that's just 1 variable of many that can mess you kid up. I don't care about the gun debate, I care that americans are brainwashed on what real everyday threats are.
You should care about the gun debate. I do, not because I’m under the impression that my kid is likely to get killed by an AR-15 carrying mass shooter in the classroom. I know she will be more likely to get run over in the school parking lot if I want to be worried.
I have understood all along, as someone who has a choice to live here or not, that choosing to stay here means I will be much more exposed to guns and gun violence. It’s part of the deal living in the us. I know several people who have been killed, have had shots fired near my house numerous times, had a gun flashed at me more than once, etc. I have made the decision to not have a gun in my house based on your approved math, and determined that even though I don’t like the exposure or most of the mentality behind the gun obsession here, it was a compromise I was willing to make. A calculated risk that I had some control over based on my own decisions.
But now it is changing. When faced with the issue of rapid fire weapons that do more damage than most being easily accessible to those who would like to harm as many people as they can, the debate turns to arming teachers. ****ing insane. So now because of the stupidity of the pro gun groups and their selfishness, my kids may be forced to be exposed to guns all the time day to day whether I own one or not. That was a decision I could make before. I am far more concerned with them being in a classroom with a gun for their entire school careers than I am about the unlikely event of a school shooting affecting them. Accidents, escalations, misunderstandings, bad judgement, suicide by teacher, unsecured weapons....those are all real threats that are being thrust upon my family because of ****ing stupidity. I mean hooray for teachers and all, but there are plenty of terrible ones—from stupid and incompetent all the way to sexual predator. The teachers at my kid’s school having pistols against a suicidal ar packing kid with a vest is ridic. I wouldn’t be afraid of any of the teachers at her school and would give myself the advantage unarmed if I had the element of surprise. Whatever make believe good will come from this “solution” will be buried by the unintended consequences.
What’s my point? This is the mentality of the public here. This is an actual solution that is being not just discussed, but implemented. Yes you should be concerned with it, at least as concerned with that as you are with people over weighing the chances of being involved in a school shooting. You see it as a way to diminish other people hand wringing, I see it as a sign that the public is ripe for exploitation.
