When the whole 'pay to win' outrage over Battlefront II gets -750k on Reddit whilst the tax cuts, Russia inquiry etc. get a fraction of that, that's how you know that people are too apathetic to save themselves now.

Im black so ill just say this, mlk was promoted because the establishment preferred a submissive black man over an aggressive type like malcom x. Even towards the end mlk is quoted as saying he fears he integrated his people into a burning house.

MLK was a brave guy, and some of those around him, guys like John Lewis, had the kind of courage to risk getting killed. They were never pawns of the establishment. The south back then was run by Roy Moore types who would kill a man for nothing. Guys like MLK were fighting a war in a way they thought they could win it, and they did to a great extent win it. They maybe needed the Malcolms too, but the no one who understands what Memphis was like in the 1950s can possibly think that a MLK was anybody's stooge.

You can be a pawn and not even know it. The people at the top of the pyramid who are pulling the strings determine everything happening down below. That's why nationally MLK is widely pushed/accepted because that whole turn the other cheek mantra falls into place perfectly for them. They didnt want someone like malcom leading the way, the "by any means necessary" mindset is a threat to the establishment. They are ok with the "can i sit at your table please?" They are NOT ok with "**** you and your table"

MLK also lets them peddle this total BS alternative history where the blacks just finally asked nicely and southern whites had an epiphany and integrated peacefully.

I agree with most of this. If there is a system that benefits a certain group in power, those people will seek ways to preserve the status quo. And everyone is playing this complex game where everyone’s actions impact other people. There are varying levels of awareness on both sides of each decision.

It just seems that this knee jerk anger at the “other” is less an empirical judgement regarding what will lead to the best outcomes and is more just a reflection of whatever underlying fear/guilt/something that person happens to be feeling at the time. (This obviously isn’t to say that those emotions are never valid)
