Looks as if some nutter has attacked a police officer with a hammer at Notre Dame in Paris, and was shot.

Obviously. Sometimes I don't remember all the characters in the forum and if I'm talking to a well-meaning person or a hopeless bigot type. So the open-ended question is a sign that I'm not going to assume the worst.

But yes: the whole purpose of maximizing the number of incidents they can fold into the Global Radical Islamism Fascism War on the West and All the Values We Hold Dear is for the propaganda value of what they really want, which is more war and immigration restrictions.

If only the truly coordinated and planned terrorist attacks like 9/11 and Bataclan qualified, then they imagine the folks will get bored and docile. By including every violent Muslim idiot and every social ill in the Middle East ("they're mean to gays! They tolerate sexual assault against women!") as ersatz terrorism and part of the existential threat to our lives, then they imagine they can frighten everyone into whatever highly aggressive and repressive stuff they have rattling around in their brains.

More Muslim leaders refuse funeral prayers for London attackers

Statement from imams and others to deter extremists says: ‘You’re not welcome in our community either in life or in death’

Quote:
Scores more imams and Muslim religious leaders have said they will not perform funeral prayers for the perpetrators of the London Bridge attack, bringing the number of signatories to a statement to more than 200.

The grassroots, cross-denominational initiative from imams, teachers, chaplains and other religious figures is intended to send a strong message to extremists considering acts of terror in the name of Islam.

“We decided we needed to make a public statement, to send a strong message – effectively, you’re not welcome in our community either in life or in death,” said Qari Asim, imam at the Makkah mosque in Leeds.

“This decision was not taken lightly. One of the last things you offer to the deceased is to seek forgiveness for them from God. By not performing the funeral prayer, we are not asking for forgiveness.

They hate us for our freedoms!

...and rest assured terrorists, we will not stop to roll back those freedoms.

Your move, bad guys.

yoin usa

I simply said what is common sense (as someone with experience at getting arrested). If you struggle, try to flee, or do anything other than comply while being placed under arrest, things are not gonna end well for you. To that extent, you have to take some responsibility.

The truly pathetic thing is that May and the Tories have been banging on about getting out of the European Court of Human Rights for years, but have never actually done it as, Trump style, they're too incompetent to actually pull it off. They could have done it at any point without leaving the EU, they just haven't the skills to write a replacement they could make work - partly because the actual agreement is so obvious and uncontroversial the last thing they want is people thinking about what's actually in it and what we'd be giving up.

what human rights laws would it be breaking to kick out non-citizens that you're being warned about?

Interesting choice of words by Mrs May. So many better ways to word that. 2 days before an election

Strange happenings in UK politics. Cant help but follow the drama

Terrorist attack at the Iranian parliament. Be interesting to see the motive behind this one

Iran's state news agency IRNA quoted the speaker of the parliament, Ali Larijani, downplaying the attack today.

He said “some coward terrorists" had infiltrated the building, but "were seriously confronted". “This is a minor issue but reveals that the terrorists pursue troublemaking,” he said. “Iran is particularly the active and effective hub of fighting against terrorism and they want to damage this trend.”
All kinds of complications to supporting what Iranian government people say, but you can't help but slightly enjoy this reaction in comparison to May and the rest of the WAF brigade.

but thats not what she said. ifs he would have made a statement about such a strategy directly it would be one thing. but she spoke broadly about removing human rights. if that doesnt set off alarm then nothing will.

I don't think they are bad, they are just prisoners in Plato's cave.

It is noticeable that the younger generation, who don't read newspapers or watch TV much, would elect Corbyn or probably any Labour candidate in a landslide.

Where did she mention non-citizens?

Also I'm pretty sure at least some of the knife-wielders in recent attacks were citizens, if not all.

what's to be done to confront the current unsustainable terror climate. my understanding is that M15 and the appropriate authorities in the U.K. don't have the manpower or resources to address the current threat level (and i believe it has been this way for some time). are the British ppl ok with one or two of these events every month or so? just roll with it as the new normal...

You're probably thinking of MI5, as in Military Intelligence, Section 5.

Hopefully we'll get a government that isnt addicted to austerity and we can start giving them more resources but yes if crazy people want to drive vans into you its actually quite difficult to stop them every time.
