The general principle is that people should not be as concerned as they appear to be about getting scammed. Whether it applies to this issue, when be approached by a down and out appearing panhandler, or when considering my proposal to give amnesty to criminals who could get an innocent person out of jail when they in fact were the actual perpatrater.
The entire premise is false. PEOPLE WITH NO CRIMINAL RECORD WHO COMMIT NONVIOLENT MISDEMEANORS DO NOT GET THEIR CHILDREN TAKEN AWAY. I was a prosecutor for 11 years. I prosecuted and assisted in the prosecution of thousands of misdemeanors in that time, probably close to ten thousand. Do you know how many people with no criminal history I saw go to jail and lose their kids over one nonviolent misdemeanor arrest? ZERO. It doesn’t happen, it’s a false narrative.

June 30 seems like a long way away. I'm pretty pissed off right now.

I know this is probably naive but it's hard to imagine this controversy going that long. This feels ready to burst, soon.

Burst how? No way are there enough votes in Congress to override a veto on some bill that would end this.

I would love to see huge turnouts for this.

My only fear is that Trump is gonna channel his inner Deng Xiaoping and try to quell the protest with excessive force a la Tiananmen Square. I really think he's getting some ideas from the dictators he's rubbing elbows with.

Trump has been closely monitoring the coverage but has been suspicious of it, telling associates he believes that the media cherry-picks the most dramatic images and stories to portray his administration in a negative light, according to one senior administration official.

The images in the media contrast with more positive photos that Trump’s aides have shown the president depicting detained children smiling, playing video games and exercising outside, said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to be candid.

It is one of the great ironies of American politics that our racial minority populations consistently poll as more conservative on cultural issues than the white population but they end up voting Democrat because the conservative party is so hostile to them.

The Republicans could rule for 100 years without the need for any cheating if they dropped the racism and kept the family values bull****, but they just can't do it.

This is like saying of the Nazis worked with their Jewish citizens they would have won. It's completely antithetical to their existence.

Ted Cruz is on this guys. He doesn't want families to be separated.

He wants them together in gulags.

I know you're joking and we're all kind of joking but I'd be damned if looking it up we came very close to being buds with Nazi Germany

Quote:
But the reality is that, in the early 20th century, the US, with its vigorous and creative legal culture, led the world in racist lawmaking. That was not only true of the Jim Crow South. It was true on the national level as well.

The US had race-based immigration law, admired by racists all over the world; and the Nazis, like their Right-wing European successors today (and so many US voters) were obsessed with the dangers posed by immigration.

The US stood alone in the world for the harshness of its anti-miscegenation laws, which not only prohibited racially mixed marriages, but also threatened mixed-race couples with severe criminal punishment. Again, this was not law confined to the South. It was found all over the US: Nazi lawyers carefully studied the statutes, not only of states such as Virginia, but also states such as Montana.

It is true that the US did not persecute the Jews - or at least, as one Nazi lawyer remarked in 1936, it had not persecuted the Jews 'so far' - but it*had*created a host of forms of second-class citizenship for other minority groups, including Chinese, Japanese, Filipinos, Puerto Ricans and Native Americans, scattered all over the Union and its colonies. American forms of second-class citizenship were of great interest to Nazi policymakers as they set out to craft their own forms of second-class citizenship for the German Jewry.

The federal government doesn't have a lot of cops, the military obv won't do anything (that's Trump's 2nd term), and the protests will mostly be in big liberal cities. The mayors may well be attending in support.
