People are objectively better down here. It's a simpler culture based on trust, politeness and mutual respect. No interaction is too small that you can't at least say good afternoon and offer a smile. You just feel better about yourself at the end of the day.
I just got my car inspected to put on a boat. I was prepared for a day of bureaucratic hell. Every interaction was pleasant and smiling - with a big "Go Panama!" (in their first World Cup game) at the end. Later when we saw the inspector at the main building - we all waved high like we'd seen an old friend - lol. When does that happen in America?
It's like the midwesterners I grew up with - before half of them were poisoned with toxic hatred.
