That Daily Beast article is perhaps the worst piece of journalism I have ever read on the site.

Quote:
Mark it down: This was the weekend a significant portion of the internet discovered that the United States locks up immigrant families. A 2014 story about family detention circulated on Twitter, with many media figures embarrassingly indicating they thought the story was new.
This didn't happen. Several media figures were taken in by photos of detained children which were actually Obama-era. The idea that this indicated that they were not aware that there were children (with their families) in detention is the author's invention.

Quote:
The biggest difference between Trump and Obama’s policies toward children, according to lawyers, is that the Trump administration is arresting and prosecuting parents who cross the border illegally with their children, which results in children being separated from their parents and placed in custody of the Department of Health and Human Services.
What is "according to lawyers" doing in there? Is that the case or not?

Quote:
A Texas sheriff's deputy was being held Monday on a charge of "super aggravated sexual assault" of a 4-year-old girl after authorities say her mother, an undocumented immigrant, was being blackmailed to stay silent about the abuse — or face deportation.

"This suspect utilized to his advantage to place the mother in fear that she would be deported if she did report it," the sheriff said, adding that the "little girl now is safe."

The department is petitioning to give the mother protected status pending the outcome of the case.

It was unclear Monday whether Nunez, a 10-year veteran of the department, has an attorney. The felony charge carries a minimum 25-year sentence if he is convicted.

"I don't know that he was purposely targeting the undocumented community," Salazar said. "Certainly what was appealing was the vulnerability of that community because they are less apt to report things."
HE DEFINITELY WAS YOU ****ING IDIOT

this **** is so infuriating

So the goddamn Trump supporters are saying things like we must not help any immigrants before we help every single veteran. Well, in Texas they are repurposing a homeless shelter to house detained migrants.

Dude it's bad faith. Don't respond mentally like you would a normal person. They all know this **** results in helpless people being targeted and abused. That's the whole point.

shouldn't do this, should do that, yada yada yada... mooch and jeb are both voting for republicans through 2020
06-18-2018 , 12:25 PM
Jeb! wanted a religious test for asylum seekers, **** that guy.
06-18-2018 , 12:29 PM
This is probably the most frustrated and powerless I've ever felt with the US government. Which is saying something. ... The **** coming out of the Trump Administration is unhinged from reality, which somehow makes it worse.

And none of the arguments are effective. What I believe and what Trump supporters believe are so opposite that I can't even engage. Things these people believe ... ****.

**** **** ****. **** everyone who voted for this sociopath.

You know, I didn't vote for him but I was one of those people who said "Hey, maybe he wont be so bad." ... And he's turned out to be about 10,000% worse than I even thought possible. ****ing taking kids hostage. He's a piece of ****.

Brane, who spent a few hours at the center known as “Ursula” for the road it’s on, said she witnessed officials scold a group of 5-year-olds for playing in their cage. One of the boys was more withdrawn and quietly clutched a photocopy of his mother’s ID card.

Everyone running this Fall must be asked if they support separating families and what they did or intend to do about this atrocity. Being just "deeply concerned" is bull**** and not enough.
Trump doesn't want to turn America into a "camp of immigrants"? Guess what except for the Native Americans we are a camp of immigrants.

For a lot of candidates the smart answer would be to back the policy. Great country we got here.

Ronald Reagan would have never ever done this.

Period.

This could go in Trump's America too, but fits in with the monstrous things happening in this country because of ICE and CBP: Grandfather and legal permanent resident of the US of 30 years spends Father's Day in ICE lockup because of a 2001 misdemeanor conviction

Quote:
In 2001, Mr. Garcia was convicted of a misdemeanor stemming from a dispute with his wife, according to his lawyer and his family. A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Superior Court said he was sentenced to 25 days in jail and three years of probation. Ms. Garcia said that her father completed probation.

It was a domestic dispute they settled years ago, and “they are still married to this day,” Ms. Garcia said.
...
Today, she said, he is a husband, a father to his five adult children and a “jolly grandpa” to his nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Quote:
A spokeswoman for ICE said in a statement that Mr. Garcia was arrested because he “has past criminal convictions that make him amenable to removal from the United States.”
And it sure seems like he's not the only one:

Quote:
United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 162 people during a three-day roundup in the Los Angeles area last week. In a news release, the agency emphasized that the operation targeted immigrants who posed a safety risk, such as one Mexican who was a known gang member and had been convicted of rape.
"We arrested 162 people, and one of them was even convicted of rape!" - can't even imagine how many other stories like this guy's are in that group, just from one week
06-18-2018 , 01:57 PM
None of this would be possible if such a vast quantity of people weren't completely OK with it. Sure, some believe this is the democrats fault, but most don't really believe that. Some might believe that it's not really happening, but most know it is. The things that most of them believe, from the coal-roller to the quiet suburban Trump voter, is that the brown people should not come here at all, and anything bad that happens to them when they come here is a good thing, because it might discourage more brown people from coming here.

Reagan preferred to secretly fund repressive militias in their home countries so he could kill these kids before they even left their own borders.

This is going to get much, much worse before it gets better.
