Sure those are obviously the real reasons, but what's wild is that it's hard to find even a pretext for the policy. Miller and Bannon both went on TV interviews and said "We're going zero-tolerance" with no justification.

Has a single GOPer currently in office actually done anything to stop this?

Keep telling me "this is not what the Republican Party stands for."

Trolling my representatives on twitter hasn't got me anywhere. Still, lol.

Blurring the lines between the military and domestic law enforcement is always a great idea. Just recruit 'em straight out of the military if you ask me.

I still don't really get it. I understand the arguments for detention, but:

Quote:
Leon Fresco, a former DOJ official in President Barack Obama's administration, said the previous administration considered, but ultimately rejected, the move.

"It was never implemented because the idea was that it was too detrimental to the safety of the children to separate them from their parents, and the thinking was it was always preferable to detain the family as a unit or release the family as the unit," Fresco said.
That's what Australia has done under mandatory detention. Obviously it's not great either to have kids in detention. But it's a hell of a lot better than lying to the parents to get the kids separate and then kidnapping them. Is it just being done as a punitive/deterrence thing? That's monstrous.

New York Post Editorial Board: Stop breaking up families at the border
House Speaker Paul Ryan says he wants to stop the mass separation of children from their families along the border, but his bid to fix it is pathetic. And President Trump’s claim that Democrats need to change the relevant law is no better.

The immediate cause of the crisis is Team Trump’s decision to start prosecuting illegal border-crossers, rather than simply deporting them. Because the law severely limits how long the feds can detain the children, immigration officials on the ground then have no choice but to break up the families.

Ryan’s answer is to stick a change of the law into the two big immigration bills he has the House voting on this week. But there’s no way the Senate will pass either one — indeed, not much chance the House will.

...

If the president doesn’t want to admit defeat, he can just add this to the long list of things he blames on Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Trying to tough this one out is guaranteed disaster.

Ok there's my answer I guess. lol at "let's kidnap them instead" as a solution to this.

The constant pushing around the blame by the administration is intentional.

It's done to create confusion as to what the facts are to make effective reporting and opinion-making of this debacle to be impossible. While all of the arguing is going on, the train that separates families continues to chug on without interruption.

Everything about this is vile and will be regarded as the worst thing America has done on its soil since internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II.

Luckily there is a large group of armed americans who have guns in order to "prevent US government tyranny". I'm sure they'll be along any minute to prevent this.

LOL at attacking liberals from the left like you actually support the asylum seekers. No one believes your trolling.

From your article:

Quote:
The biggest difference between Trump and Obama’s policies toward children, according to lawyers, is that the Trump administration is arresting and prosecuting parents who cross the border illegally with their children, which results in children being separated from their parents and placed in custody of the Department of Health and Human Services. But advocates say the alternative—family detention—is also an inhumane way to treat asylum-seekers and young children.
That's a pretty ****ing big difference!

Mooch is the only sensible person on the right:

"Obama did it too!" seems to be one of the more popular choose your own adventure excuses for this policy.

The weird thing is the "It's the law!" people never argue with the "It's not happening!" people, and neither of them argue with the "Obama did it too!" people.

And of course none of those groups argue with the "**** yeah Trump is doing it! **** those parasites. They're lucky we don't shoot them on site." people.

So basically any Trumpfan is fine with another Trumpfan believing in a completely opposite set of facts - as long as the conclusions agree - Trump good, liberals bad. It's almost like ... bear with me here ... none of them are really arguing in good faith to arrive at any kind of objective truth.

Every single Central American migrant being given permanent residency would obviously be beneficial for the US and it's what the Trumpkins of the world think every Dem wants anyway so the only political cost to advocating that policy would be losing racist Democratic voters.

Which is how Trump won.

Obviously it's a lie but even for right wingers "Obama started it" is a terrible argument. The whole stated reason to vote GOP was to reverse all the terrible Obama policies!!!

It's all bull****, just like everything. They absolutely ****ing love terrorizing helpless minorities. The media needs to stop accepting nonsensical bull****. "It's Obamas fault, also its good policy, also we aren't really doing it."

Yeah. Funny that the campaign was based on how terrible Obama was. But when governing he’s now ok to follow.
