It's not like some secret police Gestapo officer deciding to move these kids around at midnight. It's some management weasel at this company.

Safe to say we're going to need to see the receipts on this.

Pretty solid WA Post overview article about how things went wrong with the dumb ass family separation program. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local...=.d5a0b2768cdc

Found these two comments interesting:

I would agree with your assesment but would add one more thought. What is it about the minds of men like Sessions, Miller and Kelly which might begin to lead them to use children as bargaining chips and after the incompetence they wrought produced a universal conclusion "this is not America" they simplly "requalified" separated families as "ineligible for reunification?" This action and how it was handled smacks of the Nazis loading up train cars and when they arrived at Auschwitz making sure all the paper work was correct. "Oh, a few died enroute? Revise the form to make the numbers come out right."

Sessions and Miller I get. Small men with smaller minds who somehow feel they can compensate by bringing pain into someone else's life. It is Kelly who still mystifies me. Has he spent so much time in mufti the only ethos he understands is loyalty to his troops and everyone else is expendable for the mission?

As a vet and widow of a vet I understand 4 star Marine General Kelly WELL! Marine officers are trained, NOT educated, but trained to follow orders. The Pentagon doesn’t want Marines who THINK, but will walk through hell “for the mission.”

When my oldest brother graduated from Annapolis in 1971 I looked through his yearbook and I said “I didn’t know that Marines went to Annapolis! I thought it was a Naval Academy!” He said “A Marine is a Marine is a Marine. They don’t think for themselves...ever!” In four years he didn’t have ONE conversation with a Jarhead. (They call themselves Devil Dogs and Jarheads and they all worship Chesty Puller.)

John Kelly enlisted in 1970, left, then got his degree at UMass ROTC then went up through the ranks. He kept going up in PEACE TIME. Very different Marines. They didn’t get hardened with the fires of war...they went to schools-Advanced Warfare and War Colleges. 3 star Marine General Jim “Chaos” Mattis was the same. He wasn’t “Mad Dog;” that was Trump’s cutesy name. No the officers under Mattis, USAF, USA, USN called him chaos as he NEVER seemed to know what he was doing. AGAIN--THEY are NOT TAUGHT TO THINK.

Kelly’s last position was over the Southern Command...where he learned to HATE the native people of Latin and South America. This was why Trump liked Kelly--they both despised brown immigrants. My best friend is a 2 star USAF general in military intel who said about Marine Generals: “You can’t talk to these guys! They’re not that smart. But they will walk through hell for “the mission.”

The ONLY 5 star general officers in WWII were USA Generals and USN admirals...these are the ones who THINK in times of war. Never was or ever will be a 5 star Marine General.

The only general to be fired by Trump was H.R. McMaster--US Army! Because Army Generals are taught to THINK! Trump HATES people who think for themselves!

Mattis and Kelly are Marines. They’re chosen to fight a mission. PERIOD!

Pretty lol on both counts. Of course two wimps would be cruel and the guy who spent his life dedicated to war wouldn't be and then insane military branch rivalry.

ehh that second commentor is at least a little bit wrong, i have a jarhead friend from childhood who was sharing "mad dog" mattis stuff on facebook before trump announced running, as he and his fellow devil dogs basically worship the guy. never once saw him referred to as "chaos" in any of the posts or comment strings

How dare you impugn the integrity of an anonymous internet commenter who claims to be good friends with most of the top brass in America's military.

Good day sir!

A federal judge on Monday found that U.S. government officials have been giving psychotropic medication to migrant children at a Texas facility without first seeking the consent of their parents or guardians, in violation of state child welfare laws.

This separation of families will go down in history as one of Americans low moments. As a policy, a deterrent, we as a country forcibly removed children from the parents. Then we allowed them to commit suicide, be molested and suffer life long psychotic trauma. Al that happened to instill more fear in poor and desperate people that are already fearful for their lives.

What exactly should be US immigration policy, anyway? I assume we aren't satisfied with Obama or Bush's policy either? Do not respond with open borders, micro! Many intermediate steps needed before that's a possibility anyway.

Politico is reporting that the Trump administration practiced a jiu-jitsu legal maneuver on Thursday with a court filing arguing that the responsibility for fixing the family separation policy rests with the American Civil Liberties Union, which represents families torn asunder by the the government’s actions.

In the filing, the Department of Justice argued that “Plaintiffs’ counsel should use their considerable resources and their network of law firms, NGOs, volunteers, and others, together with the information that defendants have provided (or will soon provide), to establish contact with possible class members in foreign countries.”

“The administration suggested that the ACLU find out whether the deported parents wish to be reconnected with their children, or whether they waive that option,” Politico notes.

The ACLU, in its court filing, disputed this attempt to shift responsibility and insisted the government “must bear the ultimate burden of finding the parents.”

Well to be fair, how long does it take to get from Guatemala or Honduras to the US via Mexico land route? In theory there could be a 3 month or more lag because people have already paid their $6k and are in the pipeline.

But I can tell you from being down there for 7 months. Nothing the US does even makes the news. The news is 100% weather, disasters and local gang killings. Just like here basically.
