Don’t worry ICE has hired a private security firm that is run by an ex-CIA interrogator to help question all the bad hombres coming in across the border

It's an odd detail, but the little girl and her mom have no laces on their shoes. I kind of don't want to think too much about why that is.

Sounds like nothing they can actually pass then.

I wonder if the other woman is the Mom - or a Spanish speaking ICE/non-profit/whatever employee. She has those leggings to keep bugs out of her shoes (I think) which seems like something a migrant woman wouldn't have. It would also explain why the kid is bawling and not exactly asking the be picked up.

Well now that you mention it the missing laces seems to make it more likely they're together. If you go to jail they take your laces to keep you from hanging yourself. ICE might be doing the same thing right off the bat.

I think I've seen other pics of that same scene with the little girl wrapped around the woman's leg holding on pretty tight.

edit: maybe not. But there are other pics at the link, including one with mom removing the laces.

I read this stuff and am pretty sure that we should all be dropping what we're doing and physically doing something about this. I don't know that swarming the border crossings would help. A national strike? I really don't know what would make a difference.

I think that if the demonstrations were large and disruptive enough, and in the right places, either Trump or a deplorable governor would put armed forces in a position to do harm to protesters. And I would hope that law enforcement or troops harming peaceful protesters might be a tipping point that would eventually lead to some change. On the other hand, I think the people in charge and their supporters would be absolutely ****ing thrilled to see a bleeding-heart Hollywood Jew like me get shot by a Texas National Guardsman. So I really don't know.

Prediction: the policy will be reversed within a month. Trump will demand credit for solving the "Democrat-caused family separation crisis" and declare himself the most compassionate president ever.

If journalists do their job, everybody who learns about this story will know that (a) the policy is bad and causes massive unnecessary suffering, (b) it is completely within Trump's power to stop doing it, and (c) he is doing it only for political reasons, they've explicitly stated they want political concessions in exchange for stopping it. All but the most deplorable have to find this at least unseemly if not shameful and outrageous.

So maybe just wishful thinking, but I see the awareness and public criticism of this policy snowballing over the next few days, to the point where midterm considerations will come into play. Maybe a drop in his approval rating will force a change of heart.

Or maybe Cohen will be indicted next week and everybody will just forget about all this.

Not what the POTUS wants? He's literally the only person with the authority to order this.

literally every single ICE agent should get cancer and die in pain.

An absolute disgrace.

Pretty ****ing sick of hearing any version of "this is not who we are," or worse "this is not the Republican Party."

This is what GOP voters want.
this is also absolutely true. this is all they have ever wanted. it is a great deal for them as they get to mold their white ethnostate and they also get to inflict huge amounts of cruelty and suffering on non white people. feature, not bug. everything else that gets said, about jobs, about crime, whatever, is a PR song and dance.

I will say that some of the truly religious right-wingers seem to be weighing in against this. Many many evangelicals have been on missions to "save" non-white kids all around the world. Maybe that first hand experience is actually triggering some empathy in that world, I dunno.

But holy crap the non-religious deplorables are out for blood.

Amazing thread. I can't imagine any nonmilitary federal workplace that wouldn't immediately let a group of angry Congressmen inside. These ICE guys would get snap-fired under any normal administration.
